What's the best way to record videos in Full HD? - Xeogran - 08-12-2015
You choose the options to Dump Frames and Audio at once, then mix them up in a Video Editor, correct? If so, do you use any specific codec, or do you select uncompressed?

If you don't mind huge filesizes and tons of files, uncompressed is the best option.

If you ever plan to share the video with anybody, you'll have to compress it in order to upload it to YouTube and the like.

Yes, but they also have a maximum upload size of 128GB, and if you store a 1080p video as YV12, you could very well exceed the limit.

So how do people upload atleast at 1080p? I'd like to know, since it seems that uncompressed would be a mess.

I used Fraps then Camtasia Studio Recorder later and now Nvidia Shadow Play (Must have GTX 6xx GPU or latest Nvidia GPUs)

Record it uncompressed and then encode it at around 10-15 mbps (or 50 mbps for those with 'enterprise' internet connections) as per YT guidelines
It chops file sizes brought by FRAPS and DxTory waaaay down, may increase ShadowPlay file sizes though =3=

If you really want to record uncompressed you could try Lagarith Lossless codec. The file will still be a little big but at decent sizes and you should have the same quality of uncompressed. However I'm not sure if YouTube can process Lagarith-encoded files...
