RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - Lodikis - 09-08-2009 It's out here. I'm thinking of going with the Intel P55 Whitesberg and the i5 750, not sure, maybe I will buy the i7 860. Does anyone know if Intel P55 Whitesberg is a good motherboard? ![]() Soooooooo what is the better choice for Dolphin? The i5 750 or the AMD Phenom II 955 Black Edition IF I don't overclock or make a small overclock (the i5 750 to 3,0 GHz and the Phenom II 955 BE at 3,6 GHz) And I saw that you can put the turbo mode on i5 750 on 2 cores @ 3,2 GHz? Is it true? Thank yaw! RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - Iulius - 09-08-2009 i5 750 should be slightly faster while being slighly more expensive... 860 is way beyond that in price, you cant even compare them anymore. keep in mind that a good and equal mainboard costs about 100-150$ more for socket 1156 then am3, especially if you want to keep overclocking available in the future. RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - Diddy Kong - 09-08-2009 The Phenom's Price can't be beat! ![]() If i were on a budget I'd go for that Cpu or maybe the 550 Either those or AMD Phenom II 955 , but not the I5 RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - boogerlad - 09-08-2009 lies. An i5 will destroy a phenom for price/performance. I5 750 is 240 canadian. A nice motherboard like the gigabyte p55-ud2 is 115 canadian. While a phenom II 955 black edition is 220 canadian and a nice motherboard is also 100 plus. In the end, an i5 is 30 dollars more expensive, but it'll crush the phenom. btw, what the heck is whitesburg? Intel's reference mobo? If so, then no. RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - g-man_emu-gamer - 09-08-2009 A friend of mine recently bought an i7 barebone from trigerdirect for only $769can. The barbone came with an i7 920, evga x58 sli mobo, 6gb ddr3 ram at 1333mhz, 1tb sata 3 hdd, 750 watt ps, and a decent case. Depending on your budget I would consider buy a barebone like this and using your old gfx card in it. It's hard to say whether the phenom, i5, or i7 is the best deal, but my decision would probably be the i7. link to the barebone kit RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - boogerlad - 09-08-2009 crappy case and power supply. RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - Diddy Kong - 09-08-2009 List your specs Boogerlad. (Curiosity) Edit: & The power supply isn't too shabby ! RE: Worth waiting for the i5? - boogerlad - 09-08-2009 oh. My computer isn't that great. Intel e1200 at 2.8ghz 2gb of ram at 700mhz 5-5-5-12 timings 320gb hdd radeon 4850 scythe mugen 2 and accelero s2. the power supply isn't bad, but I don't like ultra... You'd be better off with a corsair. More expensive, but worth it. An i5 will destroy a phenom for price/performance. funny, today a review on one of the biggest german sites released and found out that 955 is 1% faster then i5 750(or 2% slower with turbo mode). and thats already with all those useless sse5 benchmarks ! Quote:A nice motherboard like the gigabyte p55-ud2 is 115 canadian. nice ? thats one of the cheapest available and nothing is nice about it. 4 phase design, utter bullshit for overclocking and only one full pci-e x16 making the use of a second gpu for gpgpu or physx etc in the future impossible. good boards for 1156 cost about the double. |
