Thoughts on The Last Story - linker357 - 10-12-2014 So I just finished the last story and I must say it was an amazing game all the way from the beginning to the end, I liked the way it focused so much on friendship and comraderie revolving around tough situations. Although it may at times had been similar to other RPGs such as Final Fantasy, there was just a unique atmosphere about its gameplay elements and strategic combat. The music really knew how to capture the atmosphere at the right times to excite me and overall it was just a beautiful game. I want to know what you people think about this game in this thread. RE: Thoughts on The Last Story - Shonumi - 10-12-2014 See my thoughts in Random. I have a number of issues with the story (and I really don't feel like explaining myself a third time). Needless to say, it's a good game, just not the great game I expected it to be. The gameplay is fun and I played it from start to finish feeling like I got what I paid for. Combat wasn't as strategical or tactical as I'd have liked it to have been. Some of the moves (Zael's up-the-wall dash) I found next to useless since they were either too hard to pull off in actual combat or didn't actually help when used. It was a pain to issue commands (mostly magic) only to see your teammates take a hit and stop the cast (though to be fair, this happens in a lot of games), but in a real-time RPG, that kinda of stings. I enjoyed being able to use the crossbow, however. I think more RPGs should allow for a secondary/off-hand/long-range weapons. None of the music really sticks out to me except for like two battle tunes and the intro screen, but then again, I have the OST CD (GameStop swag) that I haven't listened to. Adding a narrator was a nice touch too; I know it seems kind of a small think to take interest in, but it did help pull me into the "story" (even though I was not fond of said story). Jirall's battle was fun (the guy pretty much losses it, sad, but entertaining... oh the sadist in me...) While it's not one of my top RPGs (I've played a lot over the years) I'd give it a score of ~80% thereabouts on my own personal scale. RE: Thoughts on The Last Story - skid - 10-13-2014 I found the game to be excellent. The story was the best part of the game. The music was pretty good. The graphics were great. The video cut-scenes were cinematic. The voice acting was excellent (I played the European PAL version with British actors). The characters in the story each felt like individuals with their own personalities. I found the combat to be fun mostly because it was in real-time. It was less tactical than I thought it would be and I found the "special" power to be not that special. I did use the up-the-wall dash when there were walls and used it exclusively in the hydra scene. Running around the city got a bit boring as did fighting in the arena to power up. The later bosses got a bit frustrating to kill as they needed a strict pattern of attacks. It was the story that hooked me from the start to finish. It was like a book that I could not put down. I would give the game a rating of 9/10. RE: Thoughts on The Last Story - Garteal - 10-13-2014 Beat it a while ago, so things are quite vague now, but from what I do remember it was a good solid game. While it had its cliche moments and stupid shipping (referring to you Zael and Calista), I found the story captivating. It's been a while since I've played a game with such a big party (safe Xenoblade obviously) where everyone had a character. None of them (well except for maybe that guy) felt like they were skimped on. The weakest part is probably the gameplay if you ask me. The combat was simplistic and didn't require much effort. All I did was basically move my analog stick and activate the Outsiders power at times. And because the AI is also terrible you sometimes also had to send out commands. I didn't even use any of the 'special moves' and as skid pointed out, the Outsiders Power wasn't anything special. Story progression was linear, but I did like the set pieces that came with it. I liked the city, though I wish there was more to it than it than just the story events. Another thing that I didn't like was 'picking a quest' and getting sent out from a HUB especially after playing an open-world game like Xenoblade. The voice acting was refreshing and a welcome change from the usual American VAs that get the job. Now as for the OST... I thought was good. And while this is subjective, I agree with Shonumi on only a couple of tracks that were nice. The main menu A, main menu B, battle 1, town, (any other ingame track that has a mix of menu A and B), ending and Jiralls battle are the ones that stick out for me. The only thing that was on my mind was what the deal was with the tiger until one of you good fellows spoiled that there's something waiting for me. Not sure what I should expect... Since we're all rating games here, I'd give The Last Story a 8.5/10. RE: Thoughts on The Last Story - linker357 - 10-14-2014 I didn't quite understand the whole thing with the tiger and the story doesn't really give much clearence on it, maybe it's something I missed but the only times it appeared were when you first confront it and in some bits and pieces near the end of the game RE: Thoughts on The Last Story - chaosblade02 - 10-15-2014 I thought last story was a middle of the road RPG. Not great, but not bad either. Xenoblade Chronicles is considerably better. The game ran kinda rough on my I5 2500k @ 4.2ghz. Dips as low as 18fps in some fights with a lot of stuff on the screen. Its a bit of a stretch to even call that playable. The PAL version with a 25fps cap runs smoother unless you got a haswell CPU which is considerably better at Dolphin than sandy bridge. Consistent 25 is more doable than consistent 30 on this game with a non-haswell CPU. I don't even think a 5ghz OC on my I5 2500k would make Last Story stay pegged at 30fps. |
