Could Really use help with using ethernet for netplay - flying_tortoise - 09-28-2014 Hey guys so I have already managed to get netplay working through my wifi, after having had problems with it. I had to change ip to static, and port forward. But now the wifi just isnt good enough especially when the whole family needs to use the internet. So I have tried using an ethernet connection. The wire is fine (took it from a desktop that was using it fine), and am able to get online by connecting with the ethernet cable. However when it comes to netplay, I can not host nor join any matches. I am not sure if there is such a thing as port forwarding for ethernet connections, but I have tried many things. I am doing this to help my ping and not have to worry about someone watching a youtube video. If you have any suggestions as to how to get netplay working with an ethernet cable, please let me know. Thank you a bunch. RE: Could Really use help with using ethernet for netplay - ExtremeDude2 - 09-28-2014 I don't see why you couldn't portforward while using ethernet, if your ip is what you can't find just type "ipconfig" in cmd RE: Could Really use help with using ethernet for netplay - AnyOldName3 - 09-29-2014 Unless there's something weird going on, the static IP and port forwarding shouldn't have changed when OP switched from wireless to wired. RE: Could Really use help with using ethernet for netplay - ExtremeDude2 - 09-29-2014 Uh, yeah it would RE: Could Really use help with using ethernet for netplay - JMC47 - 09-29-2014 You need to port forward the wired connection; your internal IP will change when you change connection methods, meaning the port you previous opened is pointing to somewhere else. Yah for some reason I didnt think using the ethernet would give me a different ip address so i was port forwarding the wrong ip... So now I can connect to people but I myself can not host (it times out and I can't get the code). If you feel like helping with this it would be great, but otherwise Thanks To Everyone For The Help RE: Could Really use help with using ethernet for netplay - JMC47 - 09-29-2014 You need to make sure your firewall has an exception, and you're portforwarded to the proper address. That's it. |
