Problems with SSB - atheris - 09-28-2014 Hello, I am kind of new to this emulation thing, and am wondering about a few issues I am having with running Super smash Bros Project M. When I first tried Project M on dolphin, it was very laggy and skippy, video and audio wise. I had to mess around with the settings a lot, but now the game runs fine, even though the fps still fluctuates slightly and it lags when I turn on items. The thing is, even though it runs pretty smoothly, there is noticable input delay in the game. I am using a mayflash gc controller adapter, and even though there is no noticeable input delay in the controller configuration screen, I can hardly play SSB because the input lag is so bad. I have tried many versions of dolphin, and basically every possible combination of settings, and I can't seem to fix it. Besides the input delay problem, the game runs okay but I am curious about the existing fps fluctuation while playing. From what I've read on the internet, my computer should be able to run project M pretty well (I think), but sometimes my fps goes down to like 50 while i'm playing for no reason. This happens in Brawl as well. It seems like I have tried everything... Is my pc just not good enough? Since I play other games like BF3 on this computer on medium settings, I thought that SSB would be fine... Any solutions that I might not have tried yet? also, is this the right place to post a question like this? SPECS: Windows 8.1 x64 Playing on a laptop with 8gb of RAM CPU: Intel I7- 4500U CPU @ 1.80 GHz GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 730M RE: Problems with SSB - KHg8m3r - 09-28-2014 Yup, you come to support for these kinds of questions. First off, you should know that Dolphin and PC gaming are nothing alike. Dolphin relies heavily on the CPU, and PC games rely more in the GPU. You have a ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) CPU. It's not ideal for Dolphin. However, to maximize your playability, use the latest dev builds, as they are about 30% or more faster than the 4.0.x stable. Then make sure your power management for windows is set to High Performance and plugged in when playing. You may want to also look into a program called ThrottleStop to keep your CPU in sustained Turbo mode. Edit: spelling issues RE: Problems with SSB - HeyAlucard - 09-28-2014 What version of dolphin are you using? If you're not using the dev builds, then you should give those a try because they're a lot faster! I downloaded the latest dev build, and although the game itself is running a lot more smoothly, the input lag is still there. I set the power management to high performance and that didn't seem to help, and I did download throttlestop, but I have no idea how to use it (I'm not very smart about these kind of things). I will mess around with it though. I still can't figure out what is causing this input delay.. RE: Problems with SSB - KHg8m3r - 09-28-2014 See under Part 1 for ThrottleStop. https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-unofficial-laptop-performance-guide The input lag may be because the game is not running fullspeed. I just tried all of that, and if there were any improvements, they weren't noticeable... RE: Problems with SSB - KHg8m3r - 09-28-2014 When using throttlestop, did you turn the set multiplier up as far as it can go (you'll see a "T" next to the number, which should be 30T)? Because that will be running it at the highest Turbo speed, but only on one core. You need to bring it down one step to 29T, which is the turbo for 2 cores. See if that works. Wow, that made a huge difference! the input lag is basically gone now, and the game runs really smoothly. thanks a lot for the help RE: Problems with SSB - KHg8m3r - 09-29-2014 It's the little things like that which will get you ![]() Happy gaming. |
