the motherboard says its only compatible with 2nd gen i7/i5/i3/ 1155 socket. but is the xeon 1230v2 what gen is it ?

The mainboard is gen 2 (Sandy Bridge Chipset x6x) and the Processor is gen 3 (Ivy Bridge). However, the sockets (LGA 1155) are the same. With a BIOS update, the mainboard could be compatible. But its not mentioned on the asus webpage. Is there any special reason why you want these exact items? They are quite outdated and for the same price you could get a lot better performance.

Get E3-1230 V3 instead of V2 . V3 is much faster in Dolphin , the difference is like "day and night"
Pair E3-1230 V3 with H81 or B85 mobo
