Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - Raled - 08-07-2014 Basically i'm going with what the title suggests, what mobo and cpu can I get the best out of dolphin with a maximum budget of 300 dollars? So far I've considered an i5-4460 processor with a MSI H81M-P33 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130731&cm_re=1150_motherboard-_-13-130-731-_-Product Would this suffice? Any other suggestions are appreciated. Games I would play: Brawl, Melee, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Metroid Prime Series, Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles and Red Steel 2 just to name a few. My gpu is capable of running pretty much any game at fullscreen 1920x1080 with 2x AA. RE: Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - DJBarry004 - 08-07-2014 Brawl and Melee should be fine with that build. RE: Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - Raled - 08-07-2014 Just brawl and melee? Or you're just stating info you're absolutely sure of. I hope it's the latter. RE: Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - DJBarry004 - 08-07-2014 I´m not pretty sure about Metroid Prime since those titles are known for being demanding. But they could be handled by your CPU. RE: Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - Raled - 08-07-2014 Well thanks anyway, I just need a bit more information on what that build can or can not do. RE: Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - admin89 - 08-07-2014 Quote: what mobo and cpu can I get the best out of dolphin with a maximum budget of 300 dollars?Unlocked Pentium 20th Anniversary Edition + MSI Z97 G45 Gaming + CM Hyper 212 Evo + Arctic MX-4 Since Dolphin is a dual core application , The Pentium G3258 @ 4.7GHz outperforms i7 4770k 4.3GHz in our benchmark Only i5 4690k @ 4.7GHz or i7 4790k @ 4.7GHz can beat it The Pentium AE is extremely good at overclocking . You don't even need an aftermarket cooler for 4.2GHz+ Benchmark data : https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-2014-08-01-zbox-sphere-i5-4200-%E3%80%80anandtech-s-results-on-dolphin-cpu-benchmark https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkEUvobPn_DcdEo2aEhhdUpnU01tYUtNM3ZVX2d6SkE&usp=sharing#gid=0 RE: Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - Raled - 08-07-2014 Haha, that's a great suggestion! Thanks admin89, now I know what to go for, I'm sure this will be worlds away from my current athlon 630 in both emulation and multicored application performance. Oh and what about pcsx2? Would performance be better or worse than in dolphin? RE: Upgrading Mobo + CPU with $300 Budget - admin89 - 08-07-2014 PCSX2 is also a dual core application (mainly) , it just uses more threads than Dolphin . Therefore ,you will get higher speed if your CPU has more cores Haswell single threaded is very good . Not even FX 8350 @ 5.0GHz can keep up with i3 4130 @ 3.4GHz in Dolphin Benchmark Once you overclock the Pentium , I don't think there is any PS2 game could cause you trouble at all IMO , PCSX2 requirement < Dolphin requirement . |
