Where on a games wiki page should I detail 3D Vision compatability? - Alo81 - 08-03-2014 I'm looking to add in details about 3D vision support on various Dolphin titles, but currently there is no determined way on how to detail compatability and quality of 3D vision. Where on a games wiki page should I add the relevant information? I've already added information for Punch Out!!, New Super Mario Bros Wii, and Resident Evil (remake), and would like feedback on if others feel it's appropriately implemented. Looking forward to feedback. RE: Where on a games wiki page should I detail 3D Vision compatability? - MayImilae - 08-03-2014 You can put your results in the testing area for each game for now. We're working on a dedicated page with collective information and stuff, but it isn't ready for prime time yet. JMC47 is working on testing games, so if you want to collaborate just get on IRC and talk to him about it. RE: Where on a games wiki page should I detail 3D Vision compatability? - JMC47 - 08-03-2014 If you have any results you'd like to post, you could put them in this thread as well. I'm collecting data/footage/etc. so, please let me know! I'm collecting data/footage/etc. so, please let me know! Sure thing, I could put some stuff here. To start off, if you don't have a 3D monitor but would still like to see an example of the 3D, you can cross your eyes with these images so that they overlap and see the 3D effect without a monitor. It's sort of like riding a bike, once you figure out how to do it, you can do it forever. Here are instructions on how to do the above mentioned on the images below. ![]() Now, here's a whole album of 3D images from dolphin I just threw together. All of these experiences are from quickly going through the game a bit to see if there are any general large problems. None have been full playthroughs yet. Kirby's Return to Dreamland Works great. The furthest back background is at a set depth, so deep in-screen convergences can get foreground objects behind the background. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Kirby's Epic Yarn Has no depth. Super Mario Galaxy Another great example. On ice levels, the ice reflections are rendered oddly on the big chunks of ice. Example of good rendering below. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii Renders perfect 3D in the overworld, but there is no depth in levels. It is possible to get depth in levels by using the Google Earth 3D vision profile for Dolphin, but then the colors are completely broken. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Super Mario 64 (N64 rom injected into gamecube ISO) The sky renders at screen depth. Star select screen renders the stars far enough back that it's uncomfortable to look at with typical convergence. Aside from that, it works pretty well. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Mario Kart: Double Dash Looks great. Can be small issues with the UI depth but easy to fix. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Mario Kart Wii Also looks good. On DK's snow course, the depth of field effect doesn't render well in 3D Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Luigis Mansion Shadows render at wrong depth, which makes playing uncomfortable. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes Generally good, but character shadows are rendered at wrong depth. First person mode works great as well. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door The UI renders at inconsistent depths, and also adjusts with convergence as you change it. As a result, you can't really change the convergence to an apporioately comfortable level. Also, letterboxed areas show some outside rendering. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Donkey Kong Country Returns Looks really good (I showed it to my mom and she was giggling with glee at how cool it was!). DK must be at screen depth for everything else to appear appropriate. The lives and coins UI elements are perpetually a bit too deep into the screen, but it can be easily ignored. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Resident Evil (REmake) Pre rendered backgrounds mean no depth in those. The character just sort of floats around along it. The screenshot below is with the convergence adjusted to appear as correct as possible, but the moment you move it's all broken. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Pokemon Battle Revolution Looks damned near perfect when you have convergence set appropriately. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
Here's a full list of the games I currently have access to, if theres anything in particular that you'd want me to check out. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
RE: Where on a games wiki page should I detail 3D Vision compatability? - JMC47 - 08-04-2014 Cool! If you don't mind, I'd like to add your experiences to the list of games I've tested and maybe use some of your 3D screenshots in a collaborative album. Is there anywhere I can see the list and add some more stuff as I go through them? RE: Where on a games wiki page should I detail 3D Vision compatability? - JMC47 - 08-04-2014 I'm just doing preliminary collection and testing: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-yg75eTKUQBj4bce537dMTlxow_Nh2_atCRNewKiXeE/edit#gid=0 I only have so many games, so eventually my updates are going to stop. I'll add yours to it. Also, my rating system isn't well thought out and will probably change soon. the 1 - 5 stars thing doesn't work, because F-Zero GX is my favorite game to play in 3D, but the menus are totally messed up in it. It should be top rated even though it has bugs, because the in-game is flawless. I'll PM you my Gmail account. If not, then I could continue adding stuff to this thread for ya (or perhaps a more general 3D thread in a different subforum so that other users could contribute if they're playing around with 3D vision as well?) RE: Where on a games wiki page should I detail 3D Vision compatability? - Alo81 - 08-19-2014 I've added some screenshots showing some examples of why I think we should downgrade Super Mario Galaxy from excellent to good. There are some serious issues with the heat wave and ice effects, and when put together it's a genuinely off putting experience. It's not prevalent throughout the entire game, but it's a severe enough issue that it doesn't really fit the description of excellent, especially since there are multiple galaxies which utilize these effects. Here's two examples of one eye rendering nearly entirely unrecognizably, and the other has seriously off depth issues. Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
RE: Where on a games wiki page should I detail 3D Vision compatability? - JMC47 - 08-19-2014 Ok! I bet cheatcodes will come along and move it back to excellent some-day though. |
