Why is there 16 different files in the folder where a game saves? - SuperSoup - 07-25-2014

I saved a game of Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny, and when I looked at the save folder, there were a banner file and 16 different RFF2-XX files, going from RFF2_00 to RFF2_15. I would have thought that the game's save would be only one file, so why are there so many? After I tried opening some of them in a hex editor and seeing that most of them were empty, I thought maybe they were 16 different save slots that you could switch out for the game, but I can't find a way to change which slot the emulator uses. Is that right, or does the emulator load them all at once or something?

Ask the game's developer.
