Using two seperate Dolphin Builds, causing conflicts with netplay? - PerkPrincess - 07-23-2014

Hey! So I was originally using 4.0.2 to dip back into games I never got a chance to play. But at the same time, I've been getting into netplay on Brawl. After a fair bit of hijinx, I eventually came to the conclusion that the 648 build would never actually create any save games, even when said games told me they had. This was fine, as 4.0.2 would let me save just fine. So I ended up using them both, one for netplay and the other for singleplayer stuff.

However, now I've run into a new problem where they seem to conflict with each other. Now I cannot connect to any hosts without crashing on 648. I know they save their configs and such in the same place. Would there any way to separate the two, as that's where I imagine the problem currently is.

The easiest way is to create an empty file named portable.txt and place it in the Dolphin folder of the version(s) you don't want to use the global user directory. The problem with this is that if you're updating to the latest development version regularly, you'll have to remember to create this file over and over. If you don't want to use the global directory at all, you can disable it with a registry key, as described in this guide. Any Dolphin version operating in portable mode will simply rely on a User folder in the same directory as dolphin.exe.

Oh excellent, this actually works perfectly.

Out of curiosity as I am settling down for bed so don't have time to set up the builds. What's the directory going to look for with portable? I imagine I could copy paste the global settings over into there. ( The stable build is uninstalled right now, and testing went well, so no possible conflicts would be sent over. )

It looks in the same directory as Dolphin's exe is in. There will be a new "user" folder containing everything in the one with the portable.txt
