RE: Is this enough for dolphin? - admin89 - 07-10-2014 Quote:it just won't be good at applications which can use 8 coresIt doesn't matter . If he chose 8 cores CPU for video encoding , he would lose performance in gaming The main thing I like about the Pentium is low price . So that you have an option for a better GPU Quote:I have an FX-8350 and it handles every game I've tried at max speed.I bet you haven't tried demanding games yet . Not even an i7 4770k @ 4.6GHz could run Zelda TP - Hyrule Field full speed all the time with LLE https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-oc-ed-4770k-tested-on-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess Zelda SS is also a demanding game , not on the same level as Zelda TP Hyrule Field though RE: Is this enough for dolphin? - Xeno Aura - 07-10-2014 It all depends on what applications you use I guess. For GCN/Wii emulation, Intel will win because Dolphin can only use 2 cores, and AMD single core performance is (Famously) not great. I do a lot of game developing, so my AMD helps with multi-tasking and compiling, and also lets me use the PC as 2 workstations without a performance hit in applications that can only use half the CPU anyway. But the OP is using an R7, so games (Not Dolphin) will be bottle-necked by his GPU before they come close to his CPU's potential. Certainly the Pentium G3258 is excellent for dual core applications given its price. I've even seen it score well on BF4 benchmarks. If I was to build a secondary PC I would go for a Pentium G over the AMD A-series. RE: Is this enough for dolphin? - admin89 - 07-10-2014 R7 is not a single GPU . There are many : R7 250 , R7 260x , R7 265 R7 265 is a mid-high end GPU , it's equivalent to AMD 7850 which is fast enough for most PC games nowadays ...It's much faster than his first choice : AMD 6670 DDR3 High settings (no AA or low level of AA) shouldn't give him any trouble at all RE: Is this enough for dolphin? - Xeno Aura - 07-10-2014 I was just referring to the fact that the G3258 wouldn't hold back his R7 265 in games. The R7 265 will max out before his CPU will. |
