RE: Games lag on my MAC, even at the minimum settings... - KHg8m3r - 06-19-2014 If you load and run an ISO in Dolphin, it will show what CPU and GPU you have at the top in the yellow text. The iMacs use mobile graphics cards for some reason. RE: Games lag on my MAC, even at the minimum settings... - pauldacheez - 06-21-2014 FYI, Intel has a little app called MacCPUID that shows you the CPU model and a bunch of extra CPU feature things. OpenGL Extension Viewer also shows CPU/GPU model info: https://itunes.apple.com/app/opengl-extensions-viewer/id444052073?mt=12 Anyway, from my experience, most Macs don't really have that much trouble thermally regulating themselves – while your iMac may not be running the CPU and GPU at max clockspeeds the whole time, they're also not running really fast for fifteen minutes and then throttling heavily. They're more likely to stay at some reasonable clockspeed at a maximum temperature. Speaking of clockspeeds, the issues Windows/Linux users have with their GPUs repeatedly clocking themselves down when running Dolphin still exist on OS X. You may or may not want to try this out – it's an old guide for some semi-insane system .kext editing, but it likely still works: http://www.chromescreen.com/get-rid-of-osx-lag-and-run-your-macbook-pro-gpu-at-full-speed/ Be aware that a) editing system files is almost always dangerous, so make sure you have backups and know how to restore them, and b) this isn't a set-it-and-forget-it thing, you'll want to use this in combination with gfxCardStatus to disable the discrete GPU when you're not running games or graphics-intensive things. I have an Imac with an i5 3330s and a 650m and it runs TP okayish at 2x IR. RE: Games lag on my MAC, even at the minimum settings... - Anti-Ultimate - 07-02-2014 pfft, OpenGL actually got reduced to half the performance on AMD gpu's some commits ago. I created an issue report about this already. |
