RE: Another is my system powerful enough? - Anti-Ultimate - 06-16-2014 Doesn't the Pentium also overclock in Z87 Mobos with a BIOS update? RE: Another is my system powerful enough? - admin89 - 06-16-2014 Z97 price is the same as Z87 . It's pointless to choose Z87 mobo Not to mention Z97 can OC CPU far better than Z87 RE: Another is my system powerful enough? - Anti-Ultimate - 06-16-2014 There's literally no difference in overclocking from Z97 to Z87, the only thing that makes Z97 better are M2 slots. RE: Another is my system powerful enough? - AnyOldName3 - 06-16-2014 And the fact that you don't have to buy a non-refresh Haswell to do the BIOS update in the first place. RE: Another is my system powerful enough? - admin89 - 06-16-2014 I read somewhere on the internet that i5 4670k can oc better on a Z97 mobo . Devid Canyon can oc that much also thanks to Z97 mobo and new TIM RE: Another is my system powerful enough? - Anti-Ultimate - 06-16-2014 Obviously you want to go for the newest chipset all the time. I didn't want to recommend him a Z87 mobo. I don't have time to dig that topic to prove to you RE: Another is my system powerful enough? - tecfreak - 06-16-2014 (06-15-2014, 11:33 PM)DragonFireXY Wrote: What about the Pentium anniversary? The G3258 @4.6GHz will probably be as fast as a i3 4130, gets hotter and has a higher power consumption @oc. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/unlocked/intel-pentium-g3258-review-and-overclocking-benchmarks-idnum298/ @Dinujan You better go with the 4130. I"m going to be installing a Cruical M550 M.2 SSD. I'm just not 100% sure it will work (Physically it should fit). There seems to be alot of different nomenclature for this slot, so I'm a little confused. The SSD is Sata and has both 'M' and 'B' notches, and the motherboard is a type 3 M.2, based on PCIe x2. But I've got no idea on whether it will fit or not (06-16-2014, 04:23 AM)tecfreak Wrote:(06-15-2014, 11:33 PM)DragonFireXY Wrote: What about the Pentium anniversary? Okay, so 4150 or G3258. If I choose the G3258, I'll save 40$ on the CPU, but spend 50$ on a Z97 motherboard, and also have to settle for whatever AC Wifi module they choose instead of the Intel one I chose. I'm planning to get either the Zalman 8900 Silent or the Noctua NH-l4i. The Zalman is 12mm taller a better cooler (quieter plus lower temps), however, I like the look of the Noctua. Power Supply: I am planning on using a 160W Power Supply. If I go i3, I'm looking at 71+50W vs (60-100) + 50W on the G3258. So either system is okay. I might have failed to mention this, but I"m making an ITX HTPC, so there will be very poor airflow, and no extra fans. I can make some notches in the case, for cooling, but its going to be mainly directed at the 750 ti. In the video, the Pentium was massacred by the i3 in compression tests, and barely kept up with the i3 in most tests. But I'm guessing for emulation, the Pentium would turn the tables? Since we're comparing ~4.6GHz to 3.5GHz I've also changed the OS to Windows 8, I completely forgot that Ubuntu doesn't have support for Wireless AC. Here are the two motherboards I'm considering Z97 = http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157504 H97 = http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD7218 + WiFi (http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=12200NW1072) Here's a picture of the Power Supply, in-case anyone was wondering ![]() I just need to supply it with 12V/14A DC, and it will run fine. |
