The difference between the E3 and E5 these days is single socket and mostly the insane amount of cache they put on the E5.

OpenSolaris probably doesn't have drivers for my 802.11ac ath10k-based card, and I'm more familiar with Linux-based environments anyway.

Another issue I noticed today: motherboard is *great* (ECC support, IPMI, 2 Gbps ethernet, serial console, TPM support) but unfortunately does not have an HDMI output, only VGA Sad

Since this will be going to my videoprojector it's not too much of an issue anyway I think (projector == some bleeding and blurriness anyway), but still bleh.
