RE: Silent NAS/Home server build - suggestions? - rokclimb15 - 04-11-2014 The difference between the E3 and E5 these days is single socket and mostly the insane amount of cache they put on the E5. Consider this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116906 (Haswell with no HD4600) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117261 (Sandy Bridge w/ 20MB L3 cache and 8x more expensive) ------------------ delroth, have you or are you considering using Nexenta? I have used it extensively and like it very well. RE: Silent NAS/Home server build - suggestions? - delroth - 04-11-2014 OpenSolaris probably doesn't have drivers for my 802.11ac ath10k-based card, and I'm more familiar with Linux-based environments anyway. RE: Silent NAS/Home server build - suggestions? - delroth - 04-12-2014 Another issue I noticed today: motherboard is *great* (ECC support, IPMI, 2 Gbps ethernet, serial console, TPM support) but unfortunately does not have an HDMI output, only VGA ![]() Since this will be going to my videoprojector it's not too much of an issue anyway I think (projector == some bleeding and blurriness anyway), but still bleh. |
