kinkinkijkin Wrote:EDIT: Still, the PSU admin89 linked is a REALLY cheap PSU. I'd never buy a cheap PSU, especially after what happened to my last two power supplies. If you're going to throw in a power supply, throw in something more reliable, like the less cheap 500B, or possibly a Capstone, even though the Capstone PSUs are gold PSUs and henceforth a little pricey.

It's cheap because it's low wattage (smaller caps, heatsinks, and mosfets). You'll notice that most 400-450 watt PSUs from good brands cost around $35-45, so it's not exactly alarmingly cheap. EVGA is not a bad brand.

Not everyone builds systems that need 500+ watts. In fact most PCs don't use anywhere close to that. If you're building a low wattage PC you can easily get away with using a "cheap" low wattage PSU that are very reliable as long as you don't exceed the wattage rating (which is true of any good PSU).

I've never seen a "good" power supply below $50, sorry to say it. And the ones "good" below $65 were "good", not good.

And, I don't even need 500 watts. I'm using a 450w Capstone right now, it only cost me a forearm and half of a shin.

Lots of objectively good PSUs exist below $50. My HTPC is using a 300 watt seasonic PSU that cost $35 and is universally well rated.

$35 for a good PSU? What miraculous country do you live in, and where's the ferry there?

The United States of America. You should know us pretty well, we're neighbors. Link for the curious: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151086

Oh yes, with your $15 adapters that miraculously cost $60 here, and sub-100 GPUs that cost exactly $100 here

Yeah well it's still under $50. So it counts. Not my fault if some people live in places where products are more expensive. The point is they do exist.
