Dolphin Not Saving Edited Gecko Codes - FuQuan - 01-20-2014

Hi, I'm an on an off user of dolphin whenever I get bored. The problem I'm having right now is trying to edit my gecko codes that have XXYY value in them. I first download all the codes in the gecko menu, then I proceed to edit config. Notepad opens up and I go to the code I want to edit, then I save. I close and all the codes disappear. I tried manually editing them by going to Documents/DolphinEmulator/Gamesettings without opening Dolphin first, and saving. I then try to open dolphin and going to the gecko codes tab section, and no codes appear. Instead once I close the menu, the ini file disappears. I've tried googling the problem and looking up threads with people who had similar problems, but I only found one and that one wasn't much help at all. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

If you want to know which previous thread I found, it is this one. https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-using-codes-in-games-potential-bug

Can you post the ini file?

RE: Dolphin Not Saving Edited Gecko Codes - FuQuan - 01-21-2014

For some reason the forum says uploading this type of file isn't allowed, so I changed the file name extension to txt from ini. Change it back to ini if you need to when you download it. Changing the unedited ini file from txt and back again didn't seem to change whether or not dolphin could detect it, but I'm not an expert.

To be more specific, I tried to edit this to replace the XXXX with the corresponding hex.
$Pokémon Modifier - Party Slot 1 [Link Master]
48000000 804EB6F8
DE000000 80008180
12000170 0000XXXX
E2000001 80008000

After I saved, and closed notepad to return to the properties window, all the lines in the gecko codes tab disappears. The ini file disappears as well from my documents folder and I have to redownload all the codes again from the WiiRD database. I've tried editing various other parts to see if its just that part that is not working, but the results are the same.

Try the latest version? I can't reproduce your problem.

RE: Dolphin Not Saving Edited Gecko Codes - FuQuan - 01-22-2014

I'm using Dolphin 4.0.2. That is the latest version I think, might be wrong.

I tried something different as well since yesterday. I tried putting in an AR code first, and then downloading the Gecko codes. I then try to edit the Gecko codes separate from Dolphin and using save as to save. I reopen the Gecko tabs in Dolphin and they're there, nothing disappeared. I don't know why it works this way. Every few edits though, the ini file disappears along with the codes, and I have to go through the same procedure again to keep it. I don't know why this works or why the ini file disappears in the first place, but it might just be my computer. I won't delve too deep into it though, I'm just content with this at the moment.

I am Also having this issue,I edit my codes manually outside of dolphin because of it.

When you press the Edit Config button Dolphin somehow hooks into the notepad process , which is what I assume why the UI freezes until you close notepad. Huh
This bug seems to appear out of nowhere, sometime its just works sometimes it doesn't, there is no pattern to when it appears.

Interesting enough, after dolphin/notepad has decided to purge my entire Ini file, editing again the coping back the codes seems to work, but 90% of the names appear blank Huh
and this auto delete thing ceases too... Is it possible Dolphin is interfering with the save processes and corrupting the file?

Rachel you can try to reproduce using these steps

1 . Right click on a game banner and right-click then choose properties
2. go to the Gecko tab and press download cheats
3. press edit config making a change in one of the codes, copy the lot and press save.
4. close notepad, you will see that the entire list of codes is gone.
5. press edit config again, you will see that the file is empty.
6. paste the old code and press save again, then close
7. dolphin will retain the codes this time but they all have missing names and descriptions
