Yeah, but he can overclock an i7-870 farther to get better speeds

RE: X3440 vs Q9450 - NaturalViolence - 01-08-2014

He might get an extra 200-400MHz. Hardly worth $150.

RE: X3440 vs Q9450 - KHg8m3r - 01-08-2014

People have gotten it up to mid 3 and low 4 Ghz speeds on air with a good cooler

RE: X3440 vs Q9450 - NaturalViolence - 01-08-2014

His X3440 is already running at 3.8GHz.....

Came here just to let you here a comparison page for both Intel CPUs.

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/335/Intel_Core_2_Quad_Q9450_vs_Intel_Xeon_X3440.html

(Is that page even reliable, NaturalViolence?). Tongue

RE: X3440 vs Q9450 - NaturalViolence - 01-08-2014

Yes and no. The specs comparisons are correct. But there is no real "conclusion" to draw from them. It literally just tells you which product has the higher number for each spec. It says nothing about what the specs are or how they relate to performance. And as usual there is no trace of benchmarking or IPC data. The entire thing appears to be based around an automated script that just compares the specs pages.

It's reliable simply because it doesn't really say anything at all about performance, it just compares specs. But it's not really usable for comparing performance which is what this thread is about.

Well, I'm beat. They're the same product year chips, so the only advantage that the i7 has it a slightly higher max overclock. I get what you're saying now......

@artantaaa Can you push that overclock any higher and still stay stable?

RE: X3440 vs Q9450 - artantaaa - 01-12-2014

No. I spent quite a while trying for 4GHz on the X3440, but it won't do it for me. I have a Hyper 212 evo cooler and an Asus p7p55d board, and now they're all in a pretty new case instead of a beatup old Antec dragon with no front usb ports. If it wasn't for Dolphin, I'd probably be happy with this setup for years. Eventually I'll buy some brand new hardware and play some demanding games.
