Well, failing that, sometimes DSound works better on Windows than XAudio2 or OpenAL for whatever reasons. It may not work, but it's something to try.

On Mac I don't see some of these sound options. I have version 4.0.0. Is this normal?

DirectSound and XAudio2 are Windows only, IIRC. You should have OpenAL.

I've been messing around a little more, one thing that helped in some games was to sync FPS to audio. Does my GPU handle all of the settings in the graphics config, or could some of them potentially be using up CPU time?

After deciding to dedicate more time to figuring out the problem, I downloaded Dolphin 3.5 and went to an area that consistently produced audio popping when playing Brawl in 4.0, but was unable to reproduce the problem. Also, when limiting framerate to audio in 4.0, when I go to this point, my FPS/VPS are at 65/65 instead of 60/60. Don't know how much of this is helpful, but if anyone has any new suggestions I'd be happy to try them out.

Another update: I replaced the default DSP LLE with an actual DSP ROM, and now Brawl works almost flawlessly when running LLE on separate thread with the frame limit set to audio. This messes with some other games, but now some combination of DSP HLE/LLE and framelimit auto/audio makes all the games I have run so far tolerable.
