Netplay latency, what's acceptable? - nitz - 12-08-2013 Hi all, I've been trying to play Mario Kart Wii with a friend through the Internet following all the guidelines from the wiki but we've been only able to get it running at about 20% speed, enabling dual core helps a little bit but causes the well known sync issues. Our computer is exactly the same except for the VGA. The only thing I can think of about being the issue is the latency, since we're over 1200 miles away from each other the ping fluctuates between 60ms and 80ms, have tried hosting the game from either sides but nothing changed so far. 35/3Mbps and 50/30Mbps Internet connections. Is netplay doable with this latency or is there anything we can do to make it work slightly better? RE: Netplay latency, what's acceptable? - pauldacheez - 12-08-2013 Increasing the pad buffer is the normal thing you're supposed to do in this situation – increasing it will increase input lag as well as Dolphin's tolerance for network latency. RE: Netplay latency, what's acceptable? - JMC47 - 12-08-2013 60 - 80ms usually means 4 - 6 buffer on good internet connections. I've played Mario Kart Wii on netplay, it's definitely doable. I've played Mario Kart Wii on netplay, it's definitely doable. We did play a little with the buffer but input lag wasn't our problem, the game ran very SLOW upon starting a race. It runs just fine with the same settings such as disabled dual core in single player at 60fps 100% speed. RE: Netplay latency, what's acceptable? - JMC47 - 12-08-2013 Have you tried running it in multiplayer without netplay? Have you considered multiplayer is just more demanding? |
