Wii Sensor Bar alternative (candles) - NCarpio16 - 11-27-2013

Blush Guys i have a question: If you are going to use candles as the sensor bar, do i have to be in a dark room with no light to make the pointer appear? Thanks Big Grin

Don't burn down your table! Smile

The Wii sensor bar sends infrared, and the remote detects it.
Sunlight is infrared-heavy, which can potentially impair sensor bar operation. From my experience, it does not cause problems with an official sensor bar plugged into a real Wii.
Tungsten is also infrared-heavy, but indoor lighting in general is nowhere near as bright as sunlight.
Fluorescent and LED lights produce much less infrared (increasing their efficiency), which means that they affect Wii remotes very little, if at all.

If you're OK with electronics, you can make your own sensor bar using IR LEDS and resistors, plugging into a spare USB port, using only power and not data.
If you're OK with electronics and great at 3D printing and/or building things, you can make an adapter to plug an official sensor bar into a power supply. (Official sensor bars are 12v.)

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I'll go buy myself an infrared bulb next time. Smile
