8800 will run you 300 dollars? Maybe like 2 years ago lol. A 9800 gtx will run you 100 dollars which is a slimmer 8800. Here is one on sale right now.

you need a pci express slot to run a 8800 and prob want a pci express 2.0 slot for something like this card above.

The 8800 is still more expensive than the 200 series, yes. Why? It's got the name. EVERYONE knows about it. Plus 90% of games are developed on rigs running them, therefore they run a lot of stuff really well.

$365:

~$330:

I would post from Newegg or Tiger, but their last stock dried up about 3 months ago... I'll check again though.

Tiger DOES have one for ~$100, but it's not a G92, GTX, or Ultra, which are the ones you want to get (G92's are almost impossible to find, nobody wants to get rid of them)

Also if u think i really shouldn't get a 9400 then should i get a Geforce 8600 or 8800?

For web surfing? The Intel 950 that is built in is pretty good. It can even play 720p/1080i videos with a few key codecs. As it stands, it is a nice little combo that is perfect for web surfing and the such. Nothing needs to be added.

Atom, it's ok and everything, I am not going to unrecommend you it's purchase, even though I personally think those processors are shit on a stick.

oh ze irony

RE: Building new low budget pc - rene mauricio - 07-25-2009

How powerful does a processor need to be in order to web surf? The best way to look at this is to see what you are getting for ~$60 USD. A CPU, a Motherboard, Soundcard, Video card and a Ethernet card. On a $300 USD budget for a machine that cmccmc said would be for web surfing, that leaves you to spend $240 USD on other things like a Case, Drives, RAM and a power supply.

Even a cheap little AMD LE-1640 build would have you spending more, and for what? O_o.

RE: Building new low budget pc - sl1nk3 - 07-26-2009

hmm, just so you can know, here are the part of a "low-cost" computer i bought myself a few months ago :

Intel E5200 @ 2.5Ghz - 59 €
MSI P31 S775 - 54€
2 x 1Go G.Skill DDR2 PC6400 - 40 €
ATI Radeon HD3850 - 90 €
Samsung F1 320Go - ~55€

Total : 298€

then i bought a 40€ case with a 300W power supply, and it's working just fine Smile

I don't really know the prices in dollar though, but they must be around the same...
