RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - vishy92 - 11-17-2012 I didnt really asked because of the benefit for dolphin. Was just curious since changing fsb freqvency has an impact on the sdram aswell. They are running in a dual channel interleaved mode btw. RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - admin89 - 11-17-2012 Quote:Changing your FSB frequency overclocks the whole system including the memory. So if you raise your fsb to speed up your cpu it also overclocks your ram among other things. This is why cpus with unlocked multipliers are better, you can increase the multiplier instead of the fsb so it only effects the cpu.I have 2 sticks Corsair DDR3 1333Mhz , i leave them running at 1066MHz RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - vishy92 - 11-17-2012 Hmm. Thanks. I get it now. One more thing. Can you suggest a program to stress test the cpu after overclocking? The cooler will be here probably by monday. RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - admin89 - 11-17-2012 Prime95 or Dolphin lol Dolphin uses 2 cores 100% + 1 core (DSP LLE on thread) , your CPU will run at full load RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - vishy92 - 11-17-2012 (11-17-2012, 02:03 PM)admin89 Wrote: Prime95 or Dolphin lolIt would be interesting to see dolphin use a 3rd core but i get your point XD Thanks again for your help. RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - DefenderX - 11-17-2012 Err... if you check LLE on thread, you can see Dolphin running on 3 cores xD RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - NaturalViolence - 11-18-2012 (11-17-2012, 01:47 PM)admin89 Wrote:Quote:Changing your FSB frequency overclocks the whole system including the memory. That quote is completely wrong. Quote:Was just curious since changing fsb freqvency has an impact on the sdram aswell. No it doesn't, not unless you leave the ratio linked, which you shouldn't. Quote:Question: wont the ram freq. bottleneck the cpu? Depends on the cpu, the cpu settings, and the application. Quote: How can i get it to work with 1066? ( probably the timings are off, but i dont have the case of the rams anymore.) Don't, memory overclocking is a dumb idea unless you absolutely have to. Quote:If i change the fsb freqvency i will have to change the dram voltage and timing as well amiright? No. Quote:A completely unrelated question if i may. Whats your opinion on windows 8? Performance and accessibility wise. It's a shittier version of windows 7. Don't bother. Quote:My video card on the other hand likes overheating 9800gtx+ OC a badly made one GPUs generally produce a lot more heat and run hotter, I doubt it's poorly made. Quote:I need to alter fsb freqvency and voltage, but i have no idea how. Hence my asking for help. Well no offense but you must not have looked very hard. Simply typing "e6850 overclock" into google nets you dozens of results of settings used by people to achieve stable overclocks on that exact chip along with detailed overclocking guides showing how to increase fsb frequency and voltages on various motherboards. You're going to find more people who are "familiar with these older core 2 duos" via a google search than on these forums I can promise you that. RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - vishy92 - 11-18-2012 Since i have a 2 core cpu beleive me it wont... next time read the first post^^ (11-18-2012, 10:53 AM)NaturalViolence Wrote:Quote:Was just curious since changing fsb freqvency has an impact on the sdram aswell. Quote: next time read the first post^^ I did. You didn't say much. Quote:No it doesn't, not unless you leave the ratio linked, which you shouldn't. It's in your bios configuration. I don't have your bios setup in front of me so I don't know what the option is called in your particular bios. Quote:Depends on the cpu, the cpu settings, and the application. Clearly you misunderstood me. I wasn't asking a question, I was making a general statement. Besides even if that were a question your first post still doesn't provide all of the information necessary. Quote:Don't, memory overclocking is a dumb idea unless you absolutely have to.Black screen? Can you be more specific? Does this happen before POST? During OS boot? Are you sure that the timings are correct? Are you sure that your motherboard supports ddr2 1066 MHz RAM? Quote:No. If you're overclocking memory then yes you want to adjust your memory timings to be looser. Although that will only get you so far. For cpu overclocking it's not necessary. Quote:GPUs generally produce a lot more heat and run hotter, I doubt it's poorly made. That's perfectly normal for your GPU. When it gets up to 90-100 then you can start to worry. Modern GPUs go even higher. For example a GTX 590 hits 125 C at full load and that's considered a safe temperature for it. As electrical components get smaller they generally become more tolerant of heat. There are also specific manufacturing changes that can be done to increase the heat tolerance of the chip. Lower voltages also allow the chip to operate at higher temperatures. And then of course there is the architecture of the chip itself. Quote:Well no offense but you must not have looked very hard. Simply typing "e6850 overclock" into google nets you dozens of results of settings used by people to achieve stable overclocks on that exact chip along with detailed overclocking guides showing how to increase fsb frequency and voltages on various motherboards. Well then I don't know what the hell you did but you need to work on your google skills. "e6850 overclock", "e6850 overclocking", "e6850 bios", "LGA775 overclock", "LGA775 overclocking", etc. would all give you the results that you're looking for, especially the first two. RE: Xenoblade Chronicles - vishy92 - 11-18-2012 I replied to Defender X in the first part, but i see that even if i click the reply button for some1 it will just post a new reply. Disregard the first part. Regarding the link thingy i have a generic asus bios (i really cant say much more i'm not at home right now) wich came with the p5k series and yes the p5k is supposed to support 1066 ddr2 ram. The black screen happens pre OS boot. Before the p5k screen is even shown. ( To be precise its like it idles. Doesnt load or anything.) I have the timings on automatic. Changing the rams around in slots doesnt help. It's not a new issue and it doesnt really bother me i was just curious thats why i asked. If you can help me with the timings pls do so. I contacted nvidia 2 or 3 weeks ago and they said that this chip is not supposed to go over 70-75 degrees or it could cause dmg to it. Iddleing at 50-55C is way too much by itself. The other thing is that it gets really loud when it heats up so i might have to change the cooler. We'll see. I'll work on my googleing skillz then^^ |
