WiiPair - solution to permanently pair wiimote to pc using windows BT stack! - mandark - 03-09-2012

finally! Big Grin

i've found an solution to pair my wiimotes permanently with the PC using the windows bluetooth stack. and with "permanently" i mean, that only a button-press on the wiimote and no further software or interaction on the PC is needed. it also stays this way after a disconnection of the wiimotes or even a reboot of the PC. the wiimote behaves with the PC exactly like with the wii.

i did this using using a tool called "WiiPair", which is included in a package donwloadable here. (download the "Wiimote ADC"-package at the bottom of the thread).

i have it working with windows 7 x64 and an ASUS BT211 bluetooth stick.

@dolphin-devs:
to achieve this, i think the tool is using the wiiuse-library, which is written in C. maybe you could use it to implement the same feature into dolphin?

Can you explain how you got it to work?

Will it also work with the new -TR Motion Plus Wiimotes and Toshiba Stack, since Windows stack seems to be not compatible with these?

sure!

first of all: a different version of WiiPair is available here. it is purely a command-line version, but i've had some problems with the GUI-version i've posted above, when other bluetooth-devices are around. it seems to try to pair them like a wiimote, but gets stuck. the command-line-version doesn't seem to have this problem, so i recommend using this one.

the pairing-process is as follows:
  1. launch WiiPair (the command-line version)
  2. if there are any wiimotes currently paired or connected, WiiPair automatically removes those to clean up the currently connected devices.
  3. afte that WiiPair keeps looking for any WiiMotes that want to sync.
  4. then i press the red sync button inside the battery-department (1+2 buttons don't work) on all wiimotes simultaously.
  5. WiiPair should discover the wiimotes and then pair them (incl. installing HID-devices, etc.)
  6. if WiiPair doesn't find or pair all your wiimotes, just try again. rebooting your PC and removing the batteries of your wiimotes for a short time might also help, if it's not working as intended

one the wiimotes are successfully paired, all all i have to do to recoonect them to the PC is press A on the wiimote. the leds on the wiimote start blinking indefinitely until dolphin (or another tool that makes use of the wiimotes) is started and takes control of the wiimotes.

as i said, this also works after a removal of the bluetooth-device, and/or the shutdown of the system and/or the powering-off or removing of battery of the wiimote.

it does seem however, that not all bluetooth-adapters are capable of this. e.g. with a "D-Link DBT-120" the pairing is gone, after the reboot of the PC. with my "ASUS BT211" it is working fine.

the WiiPair-utility only works with the Windows Stack. i tried it with a -TR wiimote of a friend of mine. the pairing did seem to work and the wiimote even rumbled, when "refresh" was pressed in dolphins wiimote-settings, but unfortunately no controls worked inside the game. i don't know, if this is still a problem with dolphin.

but for the Toshiba Stack a way for permanent pairing has been discovered by the developer of GlovePIE (see this blog-entry and/or this dolphin thread.), but unfortunately he hasn't released any information on this yet.

Try This: Permanently Pair Wiimote To PC (Toshiba Stack).

First pair Wiimote to PC with Windows Stack with
http://www.richlynch.com/custom/dist/WiiPair-1.0-setup.exe

Then install Toshiba Stack.
