how about the i7 980, is alot more expensive but sill I think the i5 will be another waste of money

or if you can sugest me another i7 would be great

This guy won't listen to anyone here (5 pages already) so i guess you can be fine on your own
If you just overclock the e7400 you don't need to pay for the Athlon
I7 1st gen != I5 2nd gen .i5 2nd gen will outperform i7 1st gen ,the i7 extreme edition with 6 cores will outperform the i5 but then again dolphin only use 2 core....
So Phenom II x6 and i7 980 are a waste of money . Bulldozer is just an Athlon with 8 cores
If you compare i5 2500k with that athlon , it's like elephant vs ant
Pentium 4 < Athlon <(10-20%) Phenom II = Pentium Dual Core <= (5-10%) Core 2 Duo <(10%) Core i series 1st gen <(20%)Core i series 2nd gen <(10%) Core i series 3rd gen

before I made this post, I sold the core 2 duo that's why I can't take it back, I want to make sure I will not waste money again, checking all the avaliable options and thanks for the list, it resume it all, sorry if I'm annoying you but I really have to be sure to spend money for something that worth... I'll buy the i5 2500k

OK, I'll sum up : i5 2500k with a P67 or Z68 motherboard. If you wanna run SMG at full speed, you'll need to OC the CPU quite heavily, so you'll need a very good cooler... I'd recommend a Noctua NH-U12P, but it's expensive.
Also, make sure you have a good PSU (500W will be fine, and a good brand like Seasonic or Antec).

not really heavily, with my i5-2500k @ 3.6ghz I can run SMG at full speeds.

If you have it try and run the last story that will test ur system i have a phenom ll x6 overclocked to 4.1ghz and i cant run the game at full speed properly. fps on xenoblade on the other hand runs perfectly Smile

Just upgraded to 2500K 3.3ghz from amd phenom x4 965 3.4ghz
and difference is staggering...
amd OC ed to 4.3ghz is still loosing by 8+ fps against intel 3.3ghz(stock)

SMG in intel on stock running at 58fps,while amd OC-ed to 4.3ghz barrely do 46fps

nothing more to say on that matter.

AMD processors are so bad for emulation, and gaming.Really, what are they actually good for?

Don't talk BS. AMD is good for gaming,.. these games depend more on GPU than dolphin. And if you want a cheap CPU that you can overclock really easily, and you just play pc games, then get an AMD - and be advised, that AMD is better in the mobile sector at the moment. So, get your facts right.

If you just look at Dolphin, yeah, AMD is not the best, but not everyone has the money for Intel or wants to spend money just to run Dolphin.

How do you figure that? The mobile i7 is better than any AMD processor around, same as on the desktop. I'm an AMD fan, but the facts are the facts.

Quote:AMD is just good enough for gaming

Fixed that for you. As Starscream said, the facts are the facts, and although you won't notice you are using the inferior product normally, meaning it is adequate, you will with emulation, where it definitely isn't adequate.
