annoying slowdowns ? - b_m_l - 03-05-2012 hey guys, does anybody know if slowdowns in games are normal? when i look at youtube videos the games run fine. but on my machine i have massive slowdowns, tried every possible revision with no luck. especially sonic colours, donkey kong country returns. also tried every option combination (accurate v-beam was nice, games run fast now but with heavy slowdowns every xx seconds) my machine is a laptop i5 2.3GHZ nvidia gt 520m 6gig ram. i know laptops are not perfect to run emulators but it has good hardware (i think )
RE: annoying slowdowns ? - dannzen - 03-05-2012 your maschine is not fast enough... for the majorites of games set internal resolution to 1xIR or 1.5xIR on videos they are using i7 sandybridges beast with 4.0ghz-5.0ghz... thats nearly double the power of your system... RE: annoying slowdowns ? - layberneth - 03-06-2012 How slow is slow, also is it general low fps, or stuttering? You should be able to manage most games at a stable framerate, maybe not perfect, but good enough to play with RE: annoying slowdowns ? - dracas - 03-06-2012 I got the same problem. My system is windows 7 64bit ultimate with 8GB ram and a panhom IIx4 955 BE I use coretemp64 to check my cpu temperature and its always between 50-57 when running games. Normal i have 30 fps and speed is by 90-100% and then get suddenly down to 15 fps and 20-30%speed for some second. But when i check my taskmanager i see that the cpu suddenly get up to 100% and then back down 60% So it cant be the temperatur. RE: annoying slowdowns ? - b_m_l - 03-06-2012 yes the same here, games are runnung fine (with correct settings WAY too fast, about 300 % of usual gamespeed, so i use framelimiter to have normal speed, therefore i know my machine must be good enough) and how slow is slow? lets say sonic runs with 30fps most of the time and every 5-10 seconds drops to 5, stuttering and then gets back fast, also happens with donkey kong and other games (super mario galaxy for example but i think this game is not well emulated, i read a lot about it) RE: annoying slowdowns ? - b_m_l - 03-08-2012 i found an option in my system settings for power supply, balance power and hardware power and stuff, switched it to "full power, no energy safe" and it runs brilliant, is this possible tried to play sonic the first level 6 times now, worked (but after the 6 times lagging again maybe RAM or sth, but maybe this is an idea for other ppl too)
RE: annoying slowdowns ? - AnyOldName3 - 03-08-2012 It won't be ram going. this emulator will never need more than 4GB, and you can get away with less than 2GB. Also for many games your i5 won't be enough. you really need at least an i5 2500K overclocked slightly to get good speeds on all games. Makes me wish that I'd known about locked sandy bridge speeds before getting mine. Either way my GPU is my bottleneck, so I don't need to worry about the processor until I buy a new gpu. |
