Also, don't forget to go to the GFX plugin, and in advanced, select Super Mario Galaxy projection hack, so the game can work correctly. About the sound, I think the emulator can not reproduce the sounds of that game by now. ABout the 17 FPS, you can't get any further with that CPU, it's way too slow to suport more than that.
