Super Smash Bros Melee sometimes won't register my buttons? - ihazkungfu - 03-17-2011

Hi, so straight to the problem; as the title states, sometimes whenever I play SSBM, it won't register the buttons I'm pressing! (E.G: My jump button)

My laptop is a Sony VGN-SZ780E

Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40 GHz (2 CPU's), ~2.4GHz
4096MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (Yes, it's an integrated graphics card)
1838MB VRAM (According to DxDiag)

I'm running Lectrode's build R6970 x64 SSE41.

I'd like to have the register button problem fixed and also, if possible, any way to make my fps a stable 60 fps. Sometimes I go down to 49 fps and when I play 4 players, it goes to around 20-50 fps. I would like to squeeze every little FPS I can get so I can play SSBM much better. (In the menu screen I get 60 fps and sometimes 59 FPS. In training mode it's 50-60 fps, 60 fps when i'm not really doing anything.)

Thanks for the help.

How are you playing SSBM? Are you using a keyboard and mouse? or are you using a gamepad?

According to the Dolphin Wiki (here), it should be fine to play without any major changes to the settings. Looking at your build, I don't really think your C2D is that weak, however, having integrated graphics is not the best.

Aha! I fixed the problem! I forgot to tell you that I was running Dolphin in high priority and using gamebooster. It appears that running in high priority sometimes doesn't let you register any buttons for a few seconds!

Oh and I'm using a PS3 Dualshock 3 controller (using the Motioninjoy to make it work Smile )

I agree that having an integrated graphics card is pretty terrible. Okay so now that the problem is gone, anyone knows a way to increase my fps to the fullest? I don't really care about the graphics, I just want a really stable 60 fps.

EDIT: Surprisingly... now I can play in full screen pretty smoothly when high priority is off... in full screen, I get about 50-60 fps as I would in windowed mode, but some times it would go down to around the 40's. Any idea's I can improve my fps?

Fullscreen can make a difference (I've gone from about 20-25 fps to 40-45 in a game, just by switching to fullscreen). Really, the only thing to improve the speed is to tweak some of the settings till you get something that works. Try turning Safe Texture Cache off, Disable Fog and see how that runs.

Ah that makes it much faster! Thanks parasite. Okay, I'll mess around with the settings.
