new to Wii and Dolphin - williammanda - 03-09-2011
I have a Wii and have been looking over the forums to become better informed but the more I look the more confused I get. I have a few questions:
1. What media can be played on Dolphin ie original Wii dvd's or downloaded files or other?
1a. I see ISO is one way but to get a file in ISO I need to download it or copy it from my original disk. I saw a post to rip the dvd to iso but I don't have the dvd drive specified... is this the only way?
1b. Also where are the better places to download games in ISO format and is that the only format?
2. In the instructions to get dolphin working....it stated that the wii remote needed to be verified that it was working...how do I do that?
Once I get a game that can be played then will have a much better footing going forward.

1. It can be played with actual game discs if you have a drive that can read them, but speed may choke at certain times to due to having to read information from the disks.
1a. There is another way of transferring game data from your wii to pc through ftp, but I'm sure that requires your wii to have the hombrew channel I think.
Just buy the LG drive and get a IDE/SATA to usb adapter, and use it only when neccessary, unless you have a method of covering a bare drive.
1b. Just no for obvious reasons.
2. You don't need an actually wii mote to play with dolphin. The Wii mote can be emulated and mapped either to the keyboard or a controller. Some games work better with a real wii mote though. Yes, you will want to setup this up properly before you start playing games, so you don't come here asking "Why can't I move in X game?".

Downloading of games is bannable to discuss on the forum, you can rip your games through an LG drive or the SD/USB/FTP if you softmod your Wii.
