so im thinking about getting an ssd... - my_rig_is_dust - 01-30-2011 and i was wondering a few things. I know that these have been asked many times on the internet already, but I wanted to ask here because i wanted to know personal experiences. ok so if I get an ssd, then will I be able to "move" my windows installation to the ssd from my hdd keeping all my programs and games installed? theres always something that I forget to backup... And also I was wondering about how fast your startup times are on an ssd. Thanks
RE: so im thinking about getting an ssd... - NaturalViolence - 01-30-2011 Just image your drive, that should do it. Quote:And also I was wondering about how fast your startup times are on an ssd. That's like asking "I heard you have a HDD, I was wondering what kind of startup times you get with those thing?". It's a pretty big range and sometimes other things affect it, not just data drive read speeds. You can look up benchmarks/reviews for specific drives on google, they usually include a statup time graph. I would seriously hold off on buying an SSD though. They're overpriced and the next generation of intel SSDs is right around the corner. RE: so im thinking about getting an ssd... - Squall Leonhart - 01-30-2011 if its windows 7, you will need to image both partitions on the primary drive since the boot partition sits in the first 100MB RE: so im thinking about getting an ssd... - boogerlad - 01-30-2011 make sure you align! RE: so im thinking about getting an ssd... - my_rig_is_dust - 01-31-2011 So i couldnt just install windows 7 to the ssd and not touch the other 2 hdds i have and then when its installed I could just manually delete the windows installation off of the hdd its installed on now without removing any programs? Sorry if im sounding noobish It would be kindof hard to image it because my main installation disk right now has over 300 gigs of files on it and im not planning on buying a super big ssd because of the price. but then again like NaturalViolence said I might just hold off... RE: so im thinking about getting an ssd... - Squall Leonhart - 01-31-2011 you could do that. |
