Am i getting nuts? - Sadrian - 01-26-2011

Hey guys,

I have some serious speed issue in some games like MGS Twin Snakes, Twilight Princess and MEtroid Prime. Metroid Prime 3 on the other hand has some strange grafical issues after booting and crashes right before the game starts.
I somewhat feel hopeless.
Just for testing purposes i tried a PS2 Emulator. Most games seem to run fine, but there are also some noticable issues.
Just dont know whats wrong...

My PC should be fast enough ( iguess...)

Win7 64 bit
Athlon II X3 @ 3,3 GHz (no OVC)
4GB Kingston DDR3 Ram
Sapphire Radeon 5670 with 512DDR5 Ram
550W power supply
latest drivers
latest build of dolphin ( and PCSX2 Tongue )

some suggestoins?

Im very grateful for any helping hand Smile
Oh, i forgot:

I just want to be able to play it in native res, dont give a s*** about HD.
Using directx9 plugin.

Yes, you are nuts! Where's the dolphin configuration settings? Or perhaps dolphin doesn't give a sh1t about your 5670 Angel

Metroid Prime games run slow on almost any rig.

Also:
Turn off audio throttle
Set efb copy to texture
Turn off emulate format changes
Turn off accurate texture cache if the game doesn't need it
Turn off SSAA
Turn off pixel lighting
Turn off pixel depth

When Im at home ill give it a try, didnt make configs to dolphin at all.
But im still pretty sure that i wont be satisfied with the outcome.

So just for the Record:

My CPU should be enough to get things fast, am I right?

Would a better GPU make much improvement?
Since i bought the 5670 for 99€ i could give it back, pay some extra cash and get a geforce GTS / GTX 280 (?, dont remember it that good...).
What GPU would you sugest?

best regards

Your cpu may be alright for some games, but I believe MGS is going to need something stronger. Try overclocking if you can.

RE: Am i getting nuts? - Sadrian - 01-27-2011

Im not realy into this OVC stuff, so how do i do it?
Do i need an new cooler? Using the boxed one.

I really just want to play in native res, max maybe 800 x 600.
so what should i do?
Which games will run perfect?

Another thing what bothers me ist that similar rigs on youtube can handle Prime much better and that in 1080p.

If you don't know how to overclock, I suggest you don't do it and just leave it alone.

There are many games that will be able to run fine for you, like Zelda WW. Try some others and see what happens. Try older builds in the r5000's for Metroid Prime, the game seemed to run faster back then.

By dolphin standards both your cpu and gpu are ok not amazing. As long as you stay away from SSAA, pixel lighting, and pixel depth your gpu it totally sufficient. You would benefit form a cpu OC though.
