Poor performance with Xeon E5462 @2.8ghz - spankbot - 01-12-2011

Machine: ATI Radeon HD 4800, Win 7 64bit, dual quad Xeon...

During normal gameplay in MBG the FPS stay around 25-30, too slow to have fun with. Whats odd is that performance doesn't change much whether I use 800x600 (the lowest my monitor will display) or 1920x1080. I actually have two quad core CPUs, but I understand that only two cores of one physical chip will ever be used.

I'm guessing this is normal for my CPU, but I have no frame of reference for what kind of performance to expect.

Also (and maybe I should place this next item in a separate post), after updating DirectX last night, Dolphin crashes whenever I try to use the DX11 plu-gin at any resolution.

What revision?
Are your video drivers up to date?

Did you try dolphin 2.0? Older versions of dolphin from before the fifo work started are much faster than recent revisions.

Ah, I was using the latest SVN build (r6815... r6817 crashes). I will try the V2.0 when I get home tonight. Graphics drivers were updated last night before jumping into this.

I have another question. Are there any metrics on whether or not the OS X version is any quicker or slower than the Windows version? I dual boot my MacPro and would prefer to stay in OS X if possible.

Their is some debate as to whether dolphin runs faster on windows or linux but that probably depends on the distro and most people say windows is faster. However everyone agrees that Win 7 is significantly faster than macos (for dolphin). Just use bootcamp.

I would also try this build if you want something more recent that should still perform well: http://cid-b8ece3275d590dda.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Dolphin/Dolphin%20x64%20SSE3%20SVN%20Revision%206498.7z

i tend to agree although i've only tested dolphin in ubuntu 10.10 and windows 7 64bit seems the play it much faster. but i guess results may vary.

post a screen shot of you config settings and graphic settings

I will try to do this, which leads me to another question. What is the proper way to manage all of my configs when upgrading, or switching between there various releases?

What do you mean by "manage"?

RE: Poor performance with Xeon E5462 @2.8ghz - spankbot - 01-12-2011

There's no install procedure, so every time I download a new or different release I have to copy over a bunch of directories. Is there a better way to switch between different versions?

Not really. Honestly it takes only a few seconds to copy the folder contents over.
