Yes. SSE2 is needed.

I don´t think he uses a cpu witnout sse2 (older then Pentium 4).

Fixed. Pentium IIIs didn't have sse2 until the third generation in 2001, and by then no one was buying them anymore. If you have a pentium III their is a 99.99% chance it does not support sse2.
