RE 1 Remake- Fps cap difference between US and EUR - PrTv - 05-17-2009

Hi all

Recently I tried both of my favorite RE games on Dolphin (RE 1 Remake and RE 0).

I found that RE 0 works almost perfectly, but had a strange problem with RE1. I did try searching the forum and found several useful threads helping me setup the emulator. I think I found an optimal setup for this game.

However one thing bugs me -the game seems to be capped at 25 FPS, making it a bit lag to play. At first I thought it's normal, but after seeing several screen shots here showing 29/30 FPS, I started to wonder.

I tried so many versions of Dolphin, including the newest one (32xx), and my set up is:
C2D 3G
2 GB of ram
9800GT

I use the recommended setting for this game as follows:
- Enable Dual Core
- Disable Idle Skipping
- Enable everything in Advanced Settings except Optimize Quantizers
- Enable every items in DSP (except RE0 fix)
- Enable EFB to GL Texture.

My game is PAL version though. I don't know if this is the cause, since PAL is displayed at 50 FPS, dividing that by 2, I have my FPS capped at 25.

I also tried enabling Idle Skipping and disabling Throttle, and I got significantly higher framerate (varying between 25-60) and the game was no longer lag. However as the framerate is not stable, this option is not preferable.

I wonder if I could force the emu to cap framerate at 30 instead of 25.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, this is the cause. PAL version is capped at 25 fps (1/2 of PAL signal scanning frequency - 50Hz), NTSC version - at 30 fps (1/2 of NTSC signal scanning frequency - 60Hz). That's the way the game is programmed, AFAIK, there is no way to change the cap (at least without making the speed of the game too high and unstable).

Yes, I have same problem but with RE0 PAL, which runs at 25FPS, while RE0 NTSC runs at 30 FPS. I don't know why this is.

Ahh!

Thanks a lot dude for the confirmation.
At least I can stop fiddling around with settings in hoping to fix this. Tongue

BTW my RE0 is NTSC and it works almost perfectly at around 30Fps (except some odd scenes where it went down to 25ish).

Could you tell me if you have the buggy ingame music (only in the NTSC version) and if the RE0 fix in HLE DSP fixed it for you (it did for me).

Of course, I have that problem. Actually, I should rephrase my comment like this "apart from minor sound glitches, the game works almost perfectly". Tongue

About that RE0 fix, it didn't help me in older versions (can't remember which ones), but it did help in newer builds (I'm currently using the most recent one). However, even if that fix, the sound isn't perfect, as IMO it's still distorted, and first sound played in each scene tends to stutter a bit (like a first shot of a pistol in each scene). It's like that sound effect isn't cached properly or something, since all subsequent shots are fine.

Only if I could find a US version of RE1 Huh (it's bloody difficult to find one where I live as the console is "dead" and not very popular in my country).
