I assume you are using audio throttle + framelimit off.
With those option I too was having like 4-5 seconds delay with the subtitles.
Without audio throttle + framelimit auto I had no problem.

Or framelimit off + Vsync on to get stable 60 FPS (any other game but not this game)
Framelimit auto = 30 FPS
Framelimit auto = 30 FPS

For me, only the Full Motion Videos are like that. Everything else is perfectly in sync.
Also switching the frame limit from auto to off seems to have fixed the sound for me, and now everything seems perfect (other than the out of sync FMVs, but there aren't exactly too many of them anyway).

Aside from the FMV's, I get good speeds with this game. But the cutscenes lag just a little.
Running around and battling is a solid 30 fps (all settings on lowest for speed though), but in those scenes (like the first one where they're talking about the rain) goes at 30 for a little while, and then slows down to 26-27fps.
Of course, that's not really noticeable, but the sound still goes at normal speed, so it doesn't match anymore, and get's noticeable worse the longer it continues obviously.
Now, if I just put frameskipping at 1 it's fixed(FMV's are unaffected though), but then of course, it's very choppy.
I was wondering how easy (or even possible?) it would be to add some lower frameskip options? Like, 0.5, skip a frame every 2 frames?
I know the VPS increase wouldn't be all that huge, but I think it could help those who can 'almost' run at full speed.
I tried looking at the source code, but it goes way above my head. So much so that I didn't even find the function I wanted to add something to '^^ (Learning how to code, so I thought I'd give it a look... Major blow to my morale right there '^^, feels like I haven't learned anything in the past 2 years)

I'm 17 hrs into the game and I have to say I enjoy it very much, it brought back some old memories (like snes games). Definitely a very traditional RPG in everyway possible. Love it. Everyone should buy it to support them.

Frame limit off gives me like 156 FPS. During battles with Frame limit auto it sticks to 20 FPS. Is that normal? How do I slow it down?

that's odd, frame limit auto gives me 60 fps in and out of battle....have you tried limiting it to 60 fps?

Framerate Auto should limit the FPS based on the region it's from US is 60 not sure why your getting 20, you could try limiting the frames at 60 rather auto. From what I have noticed is when in menu it goes to 60 during battle and around town it's 30 but that is just for me atleast, I noticed other games tend to do that too like Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World.
Like few other I have had the audio off sync during the cutscenes where there characters move about. What I've noticed but this is because I need a new CPU atleast the audio is faster then the games animation thus getting more and more out of sync as it progress. Though seems like it mainly in the more graphical areas where the fps drops below 30, there have been a few cutscenes that weren't out of sync but I also didn't lose any fps.
