Go with a high end Core2Duo such as the E8500 or E8600, quad core is useless for Dolphin unless you plan on using it for something else other than Dolphin. Current AMD cpu's are also slightly underpowered compared to Intel's latest offerings, even a Core2Duo E8400 - E8600 will blow anything out of the water AMD currently has to offer for dual core applications, and Dolphin is a dual core application.

The only reason a quad core might be beneficial for Dolphin is because Dolphin can have two cores all to itself without system processes or services hogging the cpu.

Err..no

Im sure all games will reach full fps during certain points in the game, the point is, no CPU currently available is fast enough to give you 100% speed 100% of the time...as Dolphin currently stands.

Theres not much point if you get 60fps on the title screen, for then to have the fps jump up and down whilst your playing through the game...which is what happens in all Dolphin emulated games...

Anyone who says they are getting 100% speed 100% of the time is just another internet forum liar trying to show his big e-peen.

Huh Huh i have core2duo e8600 and radeon 4870 card.. my speed is always 100% in games, so you are just bullshit.. and my pc only cost $599 what about pc on highest radeon or geforce and nehelem proc.. u are stupid.. watch youtube idiot Dodgy write there dolphin emulator full speed and look..!

8=D

Dolphin most definitely does not suck,
most games run full speed on my Oc'd Pentium
LOL even with my e2180@2.2Ghz I can run Muramasa at full speed ALL THE TIME ... what about NSMB wii or smash Brawl? i can reach almost 100% speed, only certain spots my FPS drops by 15 but it is cause of my gay processor ...

Few tips for low end systems.

For an amd cpu, get either an Phenom 2 X3 or Athlon 2 X3. You can't always unlock the 4th cpu, and a triple core will give you similar performance in most games (one core runs the system, two for the game).

If you go intel, start with an i3 rather than a dual core. You can overclock the i3 over the 4.0 Ghz level easily.
If not, go for a quad i5 (forgot the name, but one's a quad and one's a dual core).

If you have a dual core/c2d , overclock it to 3.0-3.6. (It'd be better to get the 45nm ones rather than the 65nm for overclocking. (Amd X3's would be cheap and better than dual core's).

Last but not least, get your cpu a good fan so that you can overclock.

Not all games need a powerful cpu, I'm guessing Twilight princess, and a few others need them...
Shesh.....
My E7500 @ 2.93 GHz can play most games and even hyrule field at 20 FPS... but on 640X480 resolution :p...
Gotta get a new GFX, planning to get my bro's 8800 ultra...

THAT SHOULD MAKE ME PLAY GAMES AT 1024x768...hahaha
My e8500 have to no issues running games 100% and I run them at 1620x1050 res.

your CPU is faster than mine, and what's your GPU...?
i3 530 @ 4ghz has no probs playing wii games at twice the speed.
