As I don't have a quad core, I cannot make that determination nosound. You or abfab should do a comparison of a game using fraps and growler guncam.
Here was a old thread for gundamquatro that I attempted to explain to him how to setup growler guncam.

Capturing stuff at 1080P at 60FPS still gives me problems even on a Quad Core. I think that I am io limited though.
Edit: Tried Growler Guncam, it would not let me capture in 1080P saying something about video hight needed to be 1600
Your right Jads. Forgot all about it. Well it can capture 1080p but can't record it. (You can capture anything on the screen but the video size has a natural weird max of 1600 width and 1280 height). I actually had a guncam.cfg file that let you do it but I can't find it anymore.
Oh I forgot to mention , Im recording Fraps Fullscreen @ 5040X1050Eyefinity .
q6600 3.5Ghz
4gigo RAM
Intel 80Go SSD 2nd Gen Os / Reconrding on 1TB Samsung F1
Radeon 5870

Wait wait, your resolution is 5040 x 1050???
its beggining to be pretty "common" ,hmm ,these days , thx to ATI Eyefinity technology.
So its basically 3 displays @ 1680X1050.
I wouldn't say its common in any sense of the imagination. This is especially so when it comes to recording videos. Your point though is valid. Guncam at a max can record any size but the video output max will be 1600x1280 at a maximum (unless you go hex editing to force a change). I need to do another test. After doing some serious hunting through some irc channels, friends, forums; I did find another VERY nice video capture software. The options are ridiculous.

All I can say is WOW. Way to expensive to buy but I did a quick test and the shareware puts a DXtory watermark at the top of your vids. So far, the options can be arranged to give you anyway from extreme performance to extreme quality. Almost everything is user setup including sound codecs, hert rates, video capture size ( the max standard it says is 2560x1600 but also has a place to put in your own custom resolution settings (possible eyefinity). Video frame rate and game frame rate are independent of each other as well. Will definitely do some testing on this thing. The watermark isn't to bad if you are willing to change the aspect ratio in game and leave some black area on top of your vids. You can then just delete the watermark with a editing software program of choice. I might end up buying this thing but 3600 yen is a bit steep.

That is an awesome find, thanks for sharing. Seems to be at the same price level as FRAPS for me. So if I can capture stuff at 1080P I will consider buying it.
Edit: Ooh nice, it even has a processing thread count
