Really, it seems that every single big gaming site refers to Dolphin as "an illegal emulator used by pirates", with Wii homebrew in overall going the same way.

GamesRadar, for instance did it recently :

It really feels dumb when Dolphin developers' hard work done is simply ignored and blackpainted as "piracy" by the public.
Its not illegal to emulate a processor, etc. They just everyone who uses Dolphin uses illegal copies of game dumps.
Can someone do a polite response? with details and everything. My router sucks balls and I can't even register to that page
ugh, people nowadays.......

hey!

my dumps are 100% legal Sad
It's kinda "political correct" of gaming media to be against everything having to do with emulation. at least GoNintendo doesn't mind posting Dolphin HD shots (they do about once a day)
Illegal emulator?

Seriously, these guys need to stop acting like jerks and do something better. Unless if we're into uploading P2P, torrent or Rapidshare links of any game, then they have no real reason to label us as undesirable or illegal.

no, but it is a fact 90% of the users prob didn't get their iso dumps legally
if they even have the game for real
Because most people (probably near the amount quoted by Daco) are retards who likely don't even have a real wii and stole all their games they play on dolphin.

How hard can it be to buy a wii/gc cabable IDE drive for $10 and copy the games you own into disk images?

It makes it worse these people are hypocrites and tell others not to steal games which devs paid a lot to create. They refer to 'getting' games in citations and winks as if it's some secret. The truth is you're just a poor slob if you can't at least ask your friend if he has a copy of a good game you can lend & rip that for your personal use.

Easiest way to spot them is on other forums.. Mostly south american (but also from every other nationality) users who claim not to even have a real wiimote yet they somehow have 60 japanese games.. Imported? Not..

It's simple.. If it's not from legit source it's theft. Just like stealing expensive photo software.. You can't say the developer isn't "losing" a physical object as in stealing a car, computer etc.. The high price comes from the research & development that went into the final product and was paid by real money from investors before they even knew it would be a successful sales object. The only and sole way for these people to earn their living is by people paying for their risks, development and expenses in the sales price.

If you continue to only steal games for wii, as a console it will end up just like the PSP: Nobody wants to develop good games for it anymore, and the owning corporation will spend more & more resources on monitoring the hacking scene and making the newer versions of the console impossible to mod or hack (which will disable legit homebrew like adding custom channels, dvd playback, mp3 players, servers, nand backup, sd loader).

You can't be a real fan of a game developer or franchise if you pirate his products. Most of them are not millionaires. The sales of their games literally pay for his mortgage, living expenses, car payment and food. Without the next installment happening due to poor sales, you are ruining the life of someone who created entertainment for you.

Piracy isn't such a huge problem in some areas like audio production because some of those people actually spend lots of money on merchandise & concerts (and some bands like NIN/Radiohead exploit this phenomena), but in video games, there are no paid concerts or interviews thousands of fans go to. The sole and only source of revenue for these people is a customer buying what they developed.
