I figured out the *main* issue. It appears that I accidentally (this was not intentional at all) got the post-oct 23 version of sysmenu 3.3, which included patches to all the IOS in use to prevent fakesigned IOS installation. In short, this means that the hacked IOS that xyzzy uses to grab the keys fails to install, and I get nothing.

So basically until I can figure out some way to un-update my Wii and get my fakesigning IOS installation back (or find some other way to grab the nand key, which I'm not thinking is likely) I'm stuck with a perma-encrypted dump. Lovely.

One issue that I keep running into is error -1035 for some of the IOS functions. I know from asking around the wiibrew IRC that -1017 is the "permission denied" error, but no one seems to be able to tell me what -1035 means other than the quite obvious "something went wrong". If someone happens to know, that would help out a bit, but until I can figure this mess out I'll just have to live without my nand dump it seems.

afair dolphin only supports version 1.0 of the os...
so you have to have an original untouched wii from the first weeks of sale in japan... and you mustn't have your wii updated since then...

that's history, now dolphin can boots all wiios, even the 4.0
HA! PROGRESS!

Much hacking on my Wii later and I determined the cause to be a (somehow) faulty cIOS installation. Re-installed the wiibrew version and now I have my nand-key.bin, along with a dump.

My trouble now is that I can't seem to make the extractor work. Specifically, zestig is not working, it's crashing immediately upon loading. I'm on Windows 7, it crashes in every compatibility mode. I've also tried the linux version, but I don't know where the key is supposed to go.

Anyone know how this is supposed to work?

MORE YAY!!! I finally got the tools and things to work, after 3 days of effort. It feels good.

So I know the Nand dump was successful, because when I load MK Wii not only does it *actually save* without having a previous save file, it also loads the Miis that I know were on my system. This is quite neat.

Sadly, there seems to be a considerable drawback. To actually use my nand dump, I emptied the [Dolphin]/User/Wii folder and copied the contents of my dump in there. In doing so, I appear to have somehow broken the Wiimote plugin, as it's not connecting any wiimotes. This means that basically all of my Wii games except Mario Kart fail to do... well, anything. Anyone know a workaround? There seem to be 2 new panic messages at the start of emulation that I've never seen before, I can paste them in if needed.

Still, I'm *quite* happy to have this working.

EDIT: Nevermind, got the wiimote working. Seems Dolphin needs the SYSCONF file in a very particular way.

Anywho, yeah. Happy. So... I guess I have to figure out how to convert my NAND files to .wad format before I can try to play them? Do you suppose Dolphin will one day be able to load code directly from memory? Also, I'm concerned that Dolphin hangs when the game tries to exit to the Wii Menu. Granted, there's a very informative error message displayed, but my beef with that error message is that the code *does* exist and thus theoretically should run, shouldn't it?
