GTX400 are pretty useless for now... They don't worth the price and the power consumption... If you really wanna buy a GTX470, you'd better waiting for its price to decrease and for new DX11 games to come (GTX400 seem to be useful only in the case you're running a lot of DX11 applications).
HD5850 / 5870 are a far better choice at the moment.

Yes, and remember, u need a nuclear plant for make it work (470 and 480 GTX).
FYI I had 3850 upgraded to 4850... they perform the same at 1360x768 res, to my surprise. So I think CPU upgrade/overclock will give you more improvement for dolphin.
Depends on your resolution, what game, and what settings. Using high levels of SSAA such as 4x or 9x with a high resolution will result in massive slowdowns in many games if you don't have an extremely high end gpu. Twilight princess for example requires a 5850 or higher so run with 4xSSAA at 1920 x 1080 with no slowdown. And yes overall a 5850 or 5870 is a much better choice than a GTX 470.
Fully Acknowledge that -> naoan, natural
And afaik nvidia will stop producing 470/480 at TSMC Company (they build the GPU that will be soldered to the PCB later) soon and go for another Chip Company ,cause they can't fullfil the needs of nvidia (bad availability, they even have to select the GPU's, GTX480 was planned to have 512 Cuda Cores and for better yield rate they had to lower the number of Cores to 480.GTX 460/465 will be the GPU's that are too bad to become 470's/80's with a way lower performance (about Ati 5830 region). IMHO I would wait for a refresh which should be available summer this year. Ati is also a good choice (5850/5870) and according to rumors they will release their next Gen also this year to attack nvidia once again!
Long story short: I see a Pricedrop for both ATI and Nvidia in the next few months, you could make a bargain if you want to wait. If you have the urge, go for GTX470! But consider that the performance gain in Dolphin won't be very high... blue meany need's a powerfull CPU

Well i think I will wait until christmas with the Gtx470.
I have overclocked my Q9950 from 2,83 to 3.4 yestersay but I cant see an improvement in Dolhin. I think my 3Dmark 2006 get higher and havent tried a pc game yet

But the Dolphin emu in general is the number one emu at the moment for me, thx to the developers. It should be emulator of the year!
20% more speed. Dolphin should have a little boost. Get yourself fraps and test with they benchmark key, by walking through a section of a game with 2,8 and then with 3.4-GHz. Let's say you have min 24fps with 2,8-GHz - now you should have about 30fps -> fluid as water

Nothing is in vain !
Try for 800MHz+ GPU CLOCK on your 9800GTX, and it will give you some more headroom...
Look forward to the HD5890 to be out, we'll see the nVidia response then... Until Xmas, things may change a lot in the little GPU world...
if he can grab 5870/470GTX for about 350$ he should do the deal until end of sommer. 9800GTX to 470GTX is about 100% more Performance and the newer cards will propably cost about the same as they actual cards do now with a mere of estimated 20% performance. I would even get a 2nd hand Card for about 250$ then.
