I will keep you people updated! Surprised me to hear that the 9400GT could be enough, wonder if it can be true
But I'll try it both with the IGP and 9400GT... I noticed with my main system (Geforce 8800GT I believe) that the CPU (Q6600) is the bottleneck. Hope my new HTPC system will be delivered soon and I'll let you know as soon as it is in

As long as you stay away from AA a 9400GT is more than enough, even for 1920 x 1080.
Just a little update, ordered a Sparkle GTS-250 card... Had to have low profile card because of my case and this one seemed to be the best of the bunch. Could also get it second-hand making the price just a bit higher compared to the HD5570-alike cards.
Hopefully I'll have it soon...
Btw, I did test it with the 9400GT and Intel IGP and work ok-ish. I haven't spent enough time tweaking settings and all so I can't say if the 9400GT was much better then the Intel IGP but the IGP didn't do to bad actually. Still, not completely fluid either.
What would be the best game to test if dolphin as an emulator is working ok? At the moment I don't know if laggigng and hickups are the result of my system or the particular game

I got phenom II x4 and a radeon 3850 on my htpc, it's really just for tv shows and movies in high def., but I tried it with dolphin and didn't really notice any speed bumps. All games would play at full fps on highest details (Mario Galaxy only about 45 fps though).
With core i3 and a radeon 5k+ series card you would probably have no problem running any games

Well if you have these in your library you could give them a shot:
Twilight Princess
Mario Galaxy
Sports Resort
Madworld
They can occassionally stress the cpu/gpu, if those run at acceptable speeds for you, probably most other games will too
Cheers, will give those a try...
Received my videocard yesterday, unfortunately I ordered the wrong version so have to get it changed. Hopefully tomorrow... Did also have a GTS-250 card (good, but runs hot and uses a lot of power so not sure if I want it in my htpc) and dolphin ran great!
So videocard does indeed matter (a lot). With the IGP the framerate wasn't as good, nor with the 9400GT. Maybe going to test some more games tomorrow but things are starting to look good
Thanks for the replies and help ppl. Yay for dolphin (if only the guitar hero games would work properly. Then I could really throw the wii out hehe)
So these new Intel IGP are crap !
thanks for sharing, <im sure this would help a lot of users to stay away from i3 without a proper Graphic card .

That's entirely wrong. GPU matters a lot for proper emulation.
If you have a great processor but just an integrated intel graphics chip instead of a real card, the speeds will always be sub-par, or emulation could not even start at all due to compatibility issues with directx9 and opengl.
Intel makes the best processors, but their graphics solutions are crappy compared to amd (ati, ati radeon hd) and nvidia (geforce/gt/gtx) licensed cards.

Depending on what you want, for anything except gaming they are perfect... Watching video, etc... just fine. But for dolphin and ANY gaming at all, no, stay away imo.
250 man that it sad for the difference the 260 it insame
