9xSSAA won't kill the fps if you are playing mario smash football(to me it seems that the speed got 2 times faster but the fps won't change) so anyone could you try mario smash football with 9xSSAA
As long as your gpu is powerful enough to deal with it it won't affect performance at all in ANY game. But 9x supersampling literally means 9x the resolution. So if your running at 1920 x 1080 that means its sampling at 18 MP per frame, so to get 60fps your literally talking about 1.08 gigapixels or 1080 megapixels per second. Obviously some games have a lot more per pixel detail than others and thats why some may have a fps drop while others don't. A 5870 should be sufficient to run any game at 1920 x 1080 with 9xSSAA without any drop in fps at all. Although I have yet to see a game that shows any difference between 4xSSAA and 9xSSAA even in screenshot comparisons. Why on earth are you guys trying to use 9xSSAA? Do you have any idea how ridiculous that is? And of course it looks better, thats what AA is for.
I noticed a difference with 4X SSAA and 9X in TOSBig GrinOTNW, but it's very small.

Wow actually that's a huge difference. I wonder how bad the aliasing is without any AA for their to actually be a difference between 4x and 9x.

CSAA is a form of multisampling not supersampling. SSAA works by rendering at a higher resolution then interpolating down to the screen resolution. Multisampling is completely different and coverage sampling is basically just multisampling with edge detect instead of full screen multisampling (in fact ati actually calls it edge detect).

Dunno if I came off wrong, but what you say sound like what I meant...

Definitely sounded like you meant csaa was a form of ssaa applied only to polygon edges rather than a form of msaa applied only to polygon edges. It should have read:

Technically it does, but only the opengl plugin supports it. AA was broken awhile back in the D3D plugin (D3D plugin used to use MSAA not SSAA) in one of the new revisions and was never fixed since then, so after awhile they replaced MSAA with SSAA, which works.

I find it hard to believe that the left panel has any AA being applied to it. are you sure you did 4x SSAA on that left panel?
I never said the left panel was 4X SSAA.

I just happened to mention that there was a very small difference between 4X and 9X before editing my post with a new comparison screenshot of No AA vs 9X SSAA for the thread.

This thread is about comparisons between AA and No AA, hence why I said 'Speaking of ToS, here's another comparison screenshot'
I'll edit my post and add that detail, since it was misunderstood when I posted it.

I'll also post a screen later of 4X and 9X (This time I'll make sure it's specified in the post before I post it).
