Any links/proof to back this up? I'm having a hard time believing n64 needs more gpu power to run games than gamecube, especially since i've ripped models from both systems and n64's are far inferior in polygon count/faces. Not trying to be rude or anything but it just makes no sense to me :p

Well, no proof, or none that I care to find right now, so this will have to do. It's not a matter of the models from one system to another, it's about one emulator using the video card and one that is not.

All Dolphin looks for is any graphics card that supports Direct3D 9 or OpenGL 2.1. After that, the cpu does the rest. With pj64, the video card clock speeds are being used along with your processor.
PJ64 doesn't need a good graphics card. I had a Dell Dimension 2350 with a really old Intel IGP (and a Pentium 4 1.8GHz), and it can only run DirectX 6. Deus Ex had a hard time running with it, Goldeneye Source did not run at all, but PJ64 ran like a champ.
That's not what I was saying. I have two different setups, both in my sig. If I run Dolphin with my shitty laptop gpu, the HD4200, Dolphin will run just as fast for me if I use my desktop gpu, the HD3650. Now, if I were to run pj64 with my 4200 it would not run as fast as it did with the 3650 because the 3650 is a real video card and is much stronger. The reason for this is that pj64 is actually using the clock speeds of the cards to gain performance while Dolphin is not.

Oh, ok. LOL my bad! Big Grin

yeah, i noticed that too. almost no diffrence on a real shitty hd3200 and a gtx9800+, just in higher resolutions (>1024x...) and of course AA. but in for example PCSX2, damn, it's like a completely different ball game.

btw: some games somehow don't even get a real benefit from processors, in my X3 720 (3,3GHZ) and my E8400(4,0GHZ) it doesn't make a difference in for example mario galaxy, same speed, not even 1 frame faster and almost never constant full speed, and of course twilight princess fields
No, Starscream is right.. Some PJ64 games explicitly say in the description that it needs high level graphics hardware to be playable at all. You can see this in the tab "notes(core)" where it says high system requirements.

It doesn't matter that the N64 has a 94mhz processor really. What matters is, that the code is not, and will never be, directly intepreted by your CPU while running games. Some games only work with hacks and detours that make the game just playable enough.

Though, 'high' is subjective. Stablest p64 version is ages old, so even a radeon hd3000+ series or a geforce 7xxx+ should run most games just fine (but if you use aa and high resolution, then not all games)

PCSX2 is a different story. Not even the most powerful consumer-part-made pc's available today can emulate all games at full speed, yet.

Dolphin on the other hand, stunningly, does seem to have big compatibility % and run a big amount of games flawlessly, even if end user is not using the best hardware.
Just upgraded to 64bit, much more faster in general!
(Hell Im back from the shadows for sick-posting once more!) LOL
