It sure is more motivating if you know that a particular feature X is actually needed to fix some game rather than "hey, I'll go ahead and waste some days implementing that random obscure rarely used feature X, possibly not actually fixing anything"...
i.e. that comparison isn't really justified

I tracked down Touchfactor, Julian Eggebrechts new company. He was the CEO of Factor 5 and one of the designers on Rogue Squadron 2. I sent a heartfelt email asking for help with the issue but haven't got a response and probably won't get one. It was worth a try though.
Truth be told, dolphin is the only certain way to preserve their work as Gamecubes and games for it are slowly disappearing. This applies to all emulators. They're keepers of console gaming history. Sadly, developers and publishers don't give a damn so don't expect any response on this matter. Factor5 is basically dead anyway.
A little OT, but (imho) Factor5 had the very best engine coders for the n64 and for the GC as well. I wish they would had better game designs too, so we would still have them around

such a shame rs4 was cancelled, i bet it would've been awesome.
has this game made any more progress on the current revisions? I haven't messed with dolphin at all since I got my 2nd wii. I take it still does the same disappearing backdrop thing?

I was thinking about PMing you, but... :-P
Anyway, if this is the way a lot of Dolphin volunteers feel, may I ask what is in the future for Dolphin's updates? The Wii is almost dead, so its entire library is pretty much available right now, and it will be a long time before the WiiU can be emulated. Does nobody intend to go back and improve emulation of X, Y, or Z features for the GameCube?
Besides, even if emulating X feature only helps the game's emulation a little bit, it could help other games too, couldn't it? And if you knock out the features, one at a time, you will eventually narrow down what was causing the problem, even if you didn't solve the problems very quickly.
TBH My interest isn't so much in playing these games on Dolphin (although playing them in HD would be cool), but utilizing the fact that they'd be running on a PC to gather reference material for other Star Wars-related projects. Eventually I want to remodel the Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike-exclusive assets to an even higher standard, but I'd need to extract the existing models first. I've tried my own pathetic attempt at looking into the two games' file structures, but that didn't work...
I guess I'll take a shot in the dark. If nobody is going to work on improving GameCube compatibility anymore, is there anyone here who could help me identify and extract select files from the file structure, and get them converted into a useable format? A perfect conversion wouldn't be necessary.
Most games won't allow you to simply extract their assets, let alone change the archives. As for the PC version of Rogue Squadron the only thing they managed was letting you view the file structure and it's a PC game, so you'd think 'well, shouldn't it work?'. So you'd better give up on your plans ;()
But WHY does it ALWAYS have to be the Rogue Squadron games that won't work? THOSE are the games I'd like to play god damnit. I bought my GC especially for these games and would so love to see them flashing on my monitor. I hope that one day one brave fellow will lock himself in his rooms for weeks if need be and resolves the remaining problems.
Nope, Horkrux. If it's playing in Windows under DirectX, you can extract the models. It won't be T-posed or boned or weighted or anything, but these are vehicles, so none of that matters. As for exploring the file structure, I wasn't trying it with Windows Explorer or anything. Lots of Wii games can have their models extracted with the tools I know about, and GameCube is very similar to Wii, but I guess these games were too early and too optimized to be similar enough. I know what I'm doing, mostly. If it's emulated, I'll make improved models. I'm slow, so it won't be overnight, but it'll happen.
