There are some special code in dolphin that run in x64 only and some of 64 bit calculations in the recent revs. These will explain why people will get more benefit when run dolphin x64 recent build .But if you try to run win32 build in x64 windows speed will close to windows 32bit.anyway about 200-300 revs ago speed still vary depend on game but right now most of the game I have run best with x64 build.
My comp Has 2 OS,Windows XP 32 and Windows 7 64 both has minimal program install and speed defference is more than noticable.I test with all my build start from rev 5000 to now in both OS to make sure they run.
Simple question with simple answer... Yes.
As long as your OS and processor are 64b capable.
Don't use 64 bit if you have less then 4 GB RAM

.
I had problems with this...

Never heard it this way, but I can confirm opposite; 4GB RAM or more is useless without a 64 bit OS. (3.5GB RAM is the limit of which a 32 bit OS can use)

why would that be? my brother has windows 7 64bit with only 2gigs of ram...and he has same specs as me bcuz we bought the PC same place, same time, the only difference is he's got 1gb less ram...and his fps are 5-10 higher than mine...i gotta save up for windows 7 next time my birthday comes :/
The x64 version wastes more RAM
Nope ,on my desktop i unplug 2GB out of 4Gb ,the speed still the same, infact i don't use any program like photoshop,antivirus... My PC normal use >800MB and >1.3GB when run dolphin. In SSE3 x64 run must faster than the normal one about 5-15 FPS

well...i disable everything when i play so ram shouldn't be a prob.

x86 JITL used to be faster than normal x64 build as well as it's x64 conterpart. But JITL recompilation has changed a lot and it's no longer necessary in most games, moreover it slows down things, f.e metal gear, mario kart.(talking about x86 JITL right now)
I have 4gb and swap file off. 2gb+swap and 64bit os should do fine. My os after boot with aero need about 400mb, after that its just caching.
