hey everyone,

want to say 'hello' and glad that I could join the forums. I searched around here and I could not find any topics listed so I thought I would post.

I have watched this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhGdNqG61L4 [Mega Man 9 Emulated]

It is the Mega Man 9 game emulated in dolphin v2506. Seems to run really good in the youtube video that the emulation is smooth. So what I did because I wanted to try this is I downloaded the latest version of Dolphin [r4771] x86 from the downloads page to try and play Mega Man 9 but Mega Man 9 is choppy as hell. I am not sure how to run it properly and is there anything I can do to fix the settings? This dude seems to run it smooth on an older Dolphin version and probably same PC specs. But hes runs so smooth and mine the game is very choppy. The music is nice and fast, the fps says it runs at like 57 fps so I dont understand why its terrible.

I'm not running a slow computer either.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Quad Core Skt AM3, 3.2GHz, 8Mb Cache
4GB RAM
ATI Radeon 4850
Win 7 Ultimate

it says like 57/59 fps but the game is super choppy, can anyone help? settings for the game? and now the music is fully emulated in r4771 sounds are really great but gameplay is horrible ... help Sad

thank you Smile

what do you mean? i didn't fully understand. i have tried both:

r4771
r4525

from this download page: http://www.dolphin-emu.com/downloads.php?cat_id=7

I am sure I am doing it correctly. The 7zexe extracts onto its own folder on the desktop and I open the game in there Mega Man 9 (which is in 2 seperate files in .WAD format) it loads, music seems good gameplay choppy.
The downloads available on the main site are never the latest versions, they're like snapshots of the project.
You can visit this site and always get the latest version:
http://www.dolphin-emu.org

But anyway, Megaman 9 is an odd game, it runs 100% at 120 FPS, not 60.
This is the best way to play the game:
Direct3D Plugin
Resolution 640 by 480
Disable VSync
EFB copy to Texture

The game runs best at this specific setup, no idea why though.

Hey thank you very much for the link. That URL does have the lastest versions thank you.

Ok I went into the Dolphin config page and I only have 2 options for plug-ins. I have the "Dolphin OpenGL" and "Dolphin Software Renderer" I do not have a 3D option like you mentioned. Is this a seperate plug-in I have to download from somewhere else?

The Software Renderer doesn't give me any options to configure and game will not even load in that mode, only mode that works is OpenGL and its exteremly choppy. So do I need to download a seperate plugin?

Thanks for your help.

hey I saw your video on youtube, lol my copy runs exactly the same as yours, the music plays good but the game play is nice and choppy. lolz.

We need to find this plugin to make it work or increase the fps like stated.
If Direct3D plugin doesn't appear, it's because your DirectX isn't up to date.
Just update it and you'll be good to go.

Hey Rupee, Big Grin

Thanks man for your help. I went to that link and downloaded that DirectX SDK from Microsoft, after I did that Dolphin showed that Dolphin Direct3D9 plug-in was available. Sweet. I put the settings like you said. The game runs (still a little bit slower) then normal but at least it seems playable then compared to the other settings. You can't really mess around with the settings like bigger resolution and safe textures and such because then the graphics become all messy and distorted. I guess MM9 is a real sensitive game. I haven't had the chance to finish a boss just fool around and such but does Dolphin support save states to continue where I left off or no, or is there a MM9 password system that I should use if that is at all possible?

Thanks again for your help to make it at-least playable, looking forward for updates in the future to make the game run even smoother, that would be amazing. Thank you again!!
dolphin supports save states so you can just save before fighting a boss then load the state again if you died.

I set my settings to the above and the game still ran slowly, it is playable but frustratingly so. Are there other options?
