Yeah i bought one for about $40 but it was sold with 35 games, freeloader, 3 memory cards and GBA connection cable, so $40 was really cheap in this case.

Dolphin has a few advantages though - running games at 2048x1536 with 3-4x IR, 8xAA 16xAF on high end CRT display is awesome.
So when game runs on Dolphin with 85-100% speed and no glitches it's Dolphin, else it's real hardware.
Y'know I used to think Daytona 2 and Scud Race were the most beautiful racing games on the planet. I used to always tell people how those two game have that shine to them that no other arcade racer had. Well, I *still* think they're great looking games, but to me, after playing F-Zero GX in Dolphin, it's just...*sigh*...BREATHTAKING!!!

You guys are gonna think I'm on drugs for saying this, but I swear to god the game looks like a next gen PC game!!! It is the best looking videogame I have ever seen in my entire life and yes, that includes Crysis 1 & 2, Skyrim with mods, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Dirt 3, God of War 3, etc. This of course is my personal opinion. I cannot believe my eyes when I play F-ZeroGX running in Dolphin. It is a graphical MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love love LOOOOVE Daytona 2 and Scud Race, they are gorgeous games in their own right, and their art direction is second to none. But F-Zero GX is on a whole 'nother level graphically!! AM2 didn't just kill it, they fucking MURDERED this game!!!!! They were like "Y'know what? Life is too short, so we're just gonna go ahead and make the best looking videogame in the universe right here, right now." And guess what? They did. They delivered in spades!

Words can't begin to describe the gratitude I have for SkidAu, DefenderX, Lectrode, and the rest of the Dolphin team for making this game work and look this good! It's hard to believe the gifts we as game fans, are given by the emulation community. You guys are truly god's gift to gaming and emulation and we're not worthy of your generosity! You certainly do not get enough praise or credit for the work you put into the emu community. Thank you so much guys and keep up the FANTASTIC work!!!!

Now back to playing and tweaking Dolphin and seeing if I can make this game look and run even better! Big Grin
Uh, just a quick note: Neither DefenderX nor Lectrode are an actual part of the Dolphin team (it seemed like you were implying that). They're doing a nice job of providing binaries compiled from our repository, but they aren't actually fixing stuff or anything like that.

Thanks for the clarification. It doesn't really diminish my gratitude for their contributions, since they're active here and their builds are really good.

But with that having been said, would you mind providing me with names of some of the people who are on the dev team? For example, are you one of the devs? I'd like to thank them personally. Also, why don't they ever post anything on the forums?
http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/people/list (yes, I am part of the dev team). Note that most of them are inactive most of the time or completely stopped dolphin development, though...

Most devs don't post here because development discussions happen on IRC or googlecode.

EDIT: btw, only Dolphin devs are part of the developer user group here Wink

Thanks for posting that. Well for what it's worth neobrain, you have my sincere gratitude for your efforts and contributions to this wonderful emulator. Thank you.

And if or when you speak to other devs, please tell them I said thanks and that they are appreciated.

I can honestly say that PC gaming...at least for me, would NOT be the same without emulators.
Currently can't play this game. Crashes randomly on the first course in GP. No idea what version to go back to. Im using 3.0-305 by Lectrode, as I get the best performance in F-Zero GX with this version.

This game requires a really beefy cpu, like a I5 Sandy Bridge @4Ghz or above is really minimum requirement to get the game to a steady 60fps without any crashing at all cause the older builds like 305 and such are unstable while the newer versions like 592 are stable but perform much worse. I'm probably just going to wait till the next generation of intel cpu's are launched as Bulldozer runs games only about as good as the Core2Duo cpu's so it wouldn't even really be an upgrade for me.

I have an i7 @ 3.8ghz so I have enough beef to run the game. Performance isnt the issue, its getting the game to not crash.
Tried 592, and the game no longer crashes, but the performances is extremely poor. I always got 80 - 100% speed with 305, but I can barely stay above 40% speed with 592. I don't think it's a case of needing better hardware, it's simply a case of waiting for Dolphin to be properly optimised.

Make sure your using the pal version and the latest rev of dolphin and you should be ok. The NTSC version is buggy for me, getting a pal version can be annoying though depending on where you live.

Using my computer and frame-skipping on 1 with setting the fps to like 75 I find the game playable at about 15fps constant with my C2D@3.16Ghz. I think it's just the A.I. in this game that's really hard to emulate as in practice mode without any AI drivers the game runs superfast but with A.I. it slows down a lot.

Comparatively I think games like Starfox Assault run near perfect.
