My guess is that Dolphin is emulating the lag that the GameCube had. i.e. there is lag at that point on the real hardware too.

Ahh, could be you're right. I'll test it out some moar.
Using a Core 2 Duo at 3.16Ghz I found this game playable at a nearly constant 60fps if I disable EBF copies, causes a few graphical glitches but the speedup is worth it otherwise the game is a bit choppy on my system. I'm just glad I can run it smoothly with an aged system.

Edit: Err experiencing a crash on the 2nd level of the first grand prix cup though so I need to see if I can figure out what the issue is.

Hmm, can you describe what graphical glitches you experienced when you disable EBF copies? Also could that be culprit of the crash?

Well no graphical glitches using 3.0 and it's very playable but it crashes. I'm going to try a pal version and see if that fixes my problem as I only have the NTSC version. I tried using version 3.0_432 and it's too slow for me. Using the latest rev 3.0_589 gameplay is just too slow on my machine. So I'm afraid if pal version don't work with 3.0 nothing will work unless I get a faster computer or a new emulator version comes out that works more efficiently.

Edit: Pal Version works on 3.0_589 without any crashes but gameplay is too slow. I guess I'll just shelve this title until emulation gets better or my computer is much more beefy.

Yeah, it's gonna be tough to achieve a constant 60fps on a Core 2 Duo at 3.16Ghz dude. You need at least a quad core at about 3.6Ghz I think. What is your graphics card?
Unless you're using LLE the extra 2 cores won't be used.

OK here's the deal....

I just ran F-ZeroGX on the real hardware, and surprise surprise, there is absolutely NO LAG or SLOWDOWN to be founf ANYWHERE in the game! I'm dead serious. F-ZeroGX runs aat a *buttery* smooth 60fps ALL the time!! Port Town and Green Plant are two prime examples. It is buttery smooth all the time where as in Dolphin it is not.

Here's the even stranger thing about all this.....I tried turning down EVERY THING in Dolphin....every possible setting there is: Internal res is native, Display res at its lowest, no AA no AF, nothing, and the game STILL lags. In fact, let me re-phrase that description....the picture doesn't "lag" per se, as in slows down, it's more like it becomes slightly "framey" if you know what I mean. The speed is still there, but the frames appear to drop briefly, to what looks like maybe 30fps, and then goes back up again to being smooth. It's very brief but noticeable. This is all happening even though the fps counter on both FRAPS and Dolphin's built one stays at 60 fps. Strange.

Skid....why is this? Don't get me wrong, it looks smooth quite often, but with the slight frame drops here and there, FRAPS should certainly be displaying those frame drops in its counter. Again, this appears to happen mostly on Port Town(out side version), Green Plant(oval) and Big Blue(easy version). Other tracks seem to be OK.

I'll tweak it some more and give Defender's newest build a gander and report back.
It's some sorta timing problem. FRAPs and Dolphin are reporting 60fps because the emulator is not skipping frames. The game is skipping frames.

I have a Radeon 6850 so I know it's not an issue really it's time for a cpu upgrade but I have too many other things I need to buy more then new computer parts so I'll live. Makes no sense to dump hundreds of dollars into my rig when I could by a gamecube for 40$ and play it perfectly.

I'd say $40 is a rip off, as on eBay (UK) they go for between £1 and £10.
