Also, core 2 duo CPUs on 45nm technology support SSE4.1 (like the c2d e8400 for example)

LOL WUT. SSE don't make a notable difference (at this moment), the power of the CPU is the most important thing when u upgrade it. I wrote "Maybe 10 fps or more" because he only want to upgrade the CPU (and the mobo of course) and not the other parts (like the GPU; he actually have integrated graphics xD). Remember the relation between CPU, GPU, RAM and the bottleneck effect. Check this; a high end CPU (i7) cant run some games at max speed.

but i dont understund, why a core 2 duo e8200 of 2,6 with 6 mb of cache and 1333 of front side bus, has for example 45 fps in overkill, and a icore i7 with the same speed but with only 2mb of cache fore and 333 of frontside bus more to, has like 70 fps?
do the cache and the frontside bus make the deal?
