Hi guys. I found that todays steam update now pair wiimotes.
Even the TR ones.
Just press any button or 1+2 and Steam will pair the controller and assign the led too. Wiimote will work on steam big picture.
This makes dolphin emulated mode unusable if you have steam on the background, since dolphin cant take control of the wiimote. Even if you turn it off and turn it on while dolphin is running, steam will take control and wont work on dolphin.
Still didnt find any option to ignore wiimote on steam like you can with xbox or ps controllers.
So by now, the only way to make emulated mode works on dolphin, is closing steam first.
Running win11, dolphin latest dev build.
Gave a test, here Steam won't pair the Wiimotes automatically, but it will take control over if you pair them manually or if you let Dolphin do the pairing. Out of curiosity, I connected a Mayflash Dolphin Bar in Mode 4 and although Steam recognized it, didn't like it at all, Big Picture mode became sluggish to navigate while spamming countless "Wiimote with Unknown Extension connected" notifications...
Hi. Yes, was doing more test, if wiimote is already on bluetooth list (previously paired with wiimotehook, dolphin, etc) steam will reconnect wiimotes and assign led every time you turn wiimote on. Even restarted Windows, pressed a wiimote (or 1+2, cant remember atm) button, bang, connected.
Not sure if this can be useful for learning more about wiimotes, but its cool to press a button to connect them to use it on the OS.
Also not sure which function steam recognize. IR and motion are working? Couldnt try that.
And wiimotehook will show other messages if you connect wiimote while steam is running, says something about an extension, and sometimes says motion mode ds3 emulation. This messages wont appear if you close steam previous to launch wiimotehook. Also the motion calibration wiimotehook do everytime you reconnect a wiimote, gets bugged.
AFAICT motion and IR data from the Wiimote aren't currently supported by Steam...
Yes, looks like. I guess it's simply dinput. With a xinput emulator or maybe steam config you could use for other games or emulators (without motion and IR)
Would be nice to have a background tool that can reconnect wiimotes at anytime. Like steam but without taking control of the wiimote, just connect.
Wonder what will be the workarounds for dolphin emulated mode. Will do more test later. Maybe can make steam just connect the wiimote and don't load that wiimote driver or whatever steam load.
Been testing a little more.
I can confirm, just pressing any button, wiimote reconnect to steam.
Sometimes the four wiimotes LEDs stay on or sometimes keeps blinking forever. But most of the time assign the correct led.
Hello.
I'm new to the forum and I don't have Dolphin installed, but I use a WiiMote controller as an infrared camera in my head tracking system for aerial simulation. A few days ago I had this problem with Steam and my Wiimote controller, and this was the only thread where I found a reference to my problem, although the solution of closing the Steam client didn't work for me because I have my airplane simulator purchased on Steam.
However, yesterday I found another forum where a real hero explained how to add our WiiMote to a blacklist of controllers that Steam has in its internal configuration files. It worked perfectly for me and I can use the WiiMote again with Steam open without any problem, I leave the link in case it is useful to any other user:
https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/wiki/Wiimote-And-Steam
The tutorial is somewhat complex, but the good people instereted in emulators sure know how to manage with this type of solutions, and it is also very well explained. If someone has any doubt maybe I myself can help you in the process.
Greetings to all.
Hi. Thanks for sharing. Seems like there arent many users with real wiimotes.
That could be a workaround in the meantime. Dont know if steam will replace the file on every update.
I think genuine wiimotes only have 2 different vid pid. The tr and non tr ones. Not sure if im missing something.
BTW, which tool do you use to pair or connect wiimotes? Opentrack can pair or connect them?
Thanks for the addicional hidding tool, could be very usefull in the future.
Opentrack has WiiMote support, but you have to pair the device to Windows through a bluetooth pairing program, I use a very old version of BlueSoleil and never gives any trouble. Once your WiiMote is paired to BlueSoleil, Opentrack uses as an infrared camera, pairing is usually the most painfull part of the configuration process.
I just hope that Steam respects my controller blacklist, there's been a couple of minor updates of the client in the last week and everything is working fine, but you never know when they are going to change your stuff and ruin your games...
Thanks a lot for your messages
