im not so sure about that there are some games that are solely for people who are up for the challenge in them if you took a casual gamer for example and stuck them in either resistance game or in any of the space pirate bases in either metroid prime 1 or 2 they would find them extremely difficult if they even managed to finish them

That
Games didn't get easier or harder, they are the same, but can now be played by everyone: novice or expert
not really
many games were like contra is
normal = "hard"
and hard = " WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU"
and sometimes something even higher popped up and that was just madness.
ttoday's "normal" is piss easy compared to olders
eventho most of them are cause of limitations in the game. castlevania being a good example (damn the first castlevania and its jumping)
Gtfo you Contra freak, play any other game xD
the only current game in my opinion that comes close to contra like difficulty right now are the resistance games they are f*****g hard

omfg bloodlines is one of my favorite games EVA!

its easy but fun as hell, specially when you mod the shit out of it.
*re-installs it*
this game is what vampires are all about, not that kiddi 12yo Shit twilight.
vampires have fallen so far they used to be badass blood suckers who shunned the light now their fruity weirdos who sparkle in the light

I was shocked to discover that they where all so damm difficult, in mario the amount sliding sent me to my death so many times, super metroid saw me get killed by space pirates repeatedly and i don't even want to describe contra and ghosts and goblins i could barely finish the first level in ghosts and goblins.
Now i consider myself a fairly decent gamer and all these games on my wii are fairly easy with gcn controller and i find most of the newer game releases to be pretty easy so when this happened i was genuinely suprised any thoughts and own experiences are welcome
Thats an easy one... yes, games are getting easier!
Think about the people who wanted to buy a game, lets call the game "Super Mario 26: Delta Squad". You hear from a friend that its really hard and challenging, and takes 50 hours to finish, but most of that is replaying the same thing over and over again, until you pass it.
Doesnt sound great, does it?
then, he picks up the game "Super Mario 15.5: The Fluffy White Bunnies". Takes 10 hours to finish, but reviews are good, and "fun for the whole family" so a 4 year old could finish the game with their eyes closed.
The game Devolpers have learnt that only the hardcore players will buy a hard game, with a steep learning curve and hard to master. they lose money.
On another note, someone try to finish Prince of Persia on the SNES. that game as for the hard core, especially when i think they "forgot" to add the Save Game button in that >_>
i don't think they forgot to add the save game feature but it was instead intentional in games like Contra, ghosts and ghouls and a star wars game that i think was called super jedi or something like that the lack of saving made them incredibly difficult in the end you ended up memorizing attack patterns and not just short ones but for the entire game you had to be nearly on edge and hope like hell you didn't forget something or else your f****d
o god ghost and gouls
another awesome hard good game from the good old days
LETS LOOSE CLOTHES WHILE GETTING HIT FUCK YES!
EDIT: prince of persia is another good example! and that game had "saving" (passwords)
have fun beating that
